“There’s no point in punishing you.” Charles stood in front of his office desk with his back to her. He lifted a mug to his lips. There was a dark light flashing in his eyes.

Did this mean he was unwilling to let Sterling go?!

Sophia wrinkled her brows and stood up before forcing herself to sit back down. She said as calmly as she could, “I’m not as smart as Ms. Jones. Can you speak plainly, Mr. Harris?”

“Dream Club’s hall is destroyed. With your current wages, you won’t be able to repay it even after an entire lifetime.” Most of the vases and ornaments Sterling had smashed were antiques.

“You don’t have to worry about this. My brother will reimburse all financial loss,” said Sophia.

Charles put his mug down and turned to look at her, bracing his hands on the desk behind him. “Paying back the original amount of what the damaged things were worth? Lending out a hundred and getting back the same hundred is still a loss to me.”

“You can tell my brother however much you think is an appropriate compensation. He won’t counter-offer.” Since he mentioned that money should have some wiggle room, Sophia’s heart that had lodged itself in her throat relaxed slightly.

“I don’t need money.” Charles’s gaze fell on her red and swollen face. A dark light lit his eyes. “I’m very interested in the land that White Group photographed for a new planning area in G City.”

Sophia stayed silent. No matter if it was then or now, she could not speak for the company.

“Reluctant? Forget it, then,” Charles said carelessly.

“I’m not reluctant!” Only after she said it did Sophie realize she was too agitated. She calmed her emotions and said, “This matter requires a discussion between my brother and the others. I can’t make that decision.”

The corners of Charles’ mouth curved. Her figure was reflected in his eyes. “Then you’d best move faster. I don’t have much patience.”

Sophia nodded once, then walked toward the door with her eyebrows scrunched.

The fact that she crashed into Leah and was sent to jail two years ago had already caused her family to be very upset at her. Now that Sterling caused trouble because of her, she already knew her mom and dad would hate her even more.

“Wait.” Just as her hand gripped the door handle, Charles called out to her.

Sophia turned around. With her head down, she asked, “Is there anything else you want to let me know, Mr. Harris?”

“William Jones is getting engaged on National Day. The Jones told me not to let you go create trouble.” Charles lifted his mug and put it to his lips but did not drink. Instead, he tilted his head and looked at her.

Sophia lifted her head. Startled, she made a sound of acknowledgment. Her expression looked a little horrible.

Many people in her circle had messy personal lives, but she always assumed William was an exception. She never thought he had already resolved to get engaged to Audrey and would even come to provoke her.

This made her feel immensely disgusted.

Seeing this, Charles scoffed lightly. He put the mug on the table, and his eyebrows furrowed slightly.

She was sad now that she knew William was about to be engaged?

There was a disturbance in Sophia’s heart. She stumbled clumsily out of the president’s office.

Ding!

The elevator arrived on the first floor.

“Huh, you’re here too?” Clara stood outside the elevator, her doll-like face full of shock. “Bumping into you twice in one day. This must be fate, right?”

Sophia worked hard to tug her lips into a smile. “It is quite a coincidence.”

Zachary gave her a nod, then pulled Clara by the back of her collar into the elevator before pressing the button to close the doors.

“Zachary, what are you doing?!” Clara glared at him with her hands on her hips. “I still have a few things to ask her!”
