CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX

ADELIA

It has been years since I met my wolf and she told me about our power. Ever since then, I started having visions of the future that were not in the least bright. There would be overwhelming suffering, plenty of deaths, injuries and betrayals that await me and my wolf in my future. So, how could I ever stay calm?

From the moment I realized this, I laid down low and I started crafting plans on how to counter what the future holds. Despite my countless effort in racking my brain to formulate plans that would help me survive, admittedly, the plans I crafted might not be the best course of action.

‘It’s like playing a game,’ I thought to myself. ‘I always thought that if I had some great teammates, then the plans I crafted could be refined by them and soon my wolf and I will be able to survive everything.’ “This is also the reason why I chose to be with Lewis. Because having Lewis as my teammate is the best possible plan.’I secretly nodded to myself. The prince and the princess wanting me at their side is a great opportunity. With them and Lewis, I can do a lot of things that I can’t do alone.’

Just a few hours later, I was sitting on a branch of a huge tree in the forest nearby the royal family’s castle while intently looking at the ground. Beside me was Lewis who was nonchalantly observing the surroundings. I could hardly feel his presence and hear no sound coming from him, despite him sitting close to me and even sipping on some fruit juice. “Hi,” Lewis said as he noticed my glance at him. “Are you sure you don’t want any of this? You barely ate breakfast,” he added, offering his fruit juice to me. “Ah,” I blinked at him. He was truly relaxed as if he was just having a picnic. “I’m okay… thank you,” I replied as I stared at the tip of the straw that he just used. ‘If I really drank from there… won’t we be indirectly kissing?’ I felt my cheeks warming as my mind wandered to some dangerous thoughts. Suddenly, I heard Lewis chuckling before I felt a mind-link request. ‘Don’t worry, I have concealed this area. No one could see us, hear us, or even feel our presence,’ I heard his deep voice in my mind the moment I accepted his request. ‘I-I see,’ I replied to him. ‘So, the rumors about Lewis’ powers in my vision are true,’ I thought to myself. ‘Back then, I heard that if the alpha of Talascar wanted to hide his presence, then no one, even the lord of the werewolf, would be able to find him.’ ‘Back then, many werewolves thought the rumors were exaggerated. Who would have thought that not only can he hide himself, Lewis also has the ability to hide the sight, sound, and presence of others,’I thought and could not help but sneak a peek at Lewis. At that moment, Lewis was observing the ground where the assassins were supposed to arrive. According to my deduction, the princess’ car would be arriving in a few minutes. It was supposed to be a tense moment. Yet, Lewis’ body was very relaxed. He even had a small smile on his lips, showing that he was in a great mood. ‘He is really handsome,’ I could not help but think as I looked at his very admirable features. ‘Ah, don’t be distracted,’ I scolded myself before forcing my eyes to look away from the beautiful sight. ‘Lewis is using his ability so I should not distract him even a tiny bit,’I thought. A few seconds later, however, I could not help but send Lewis a question through our mind link. ‘Lewis, did you say that no one could hear us as long as we are inside this area that you made?’ Lewis’s eyes met mine for a second before nodding. ‘That’s correct,’ he also replied through the mind-link. I blinked, confused.

After another few seconds, I once again turned to Lewis and verbally asked, “If no one could hear us, I am just-wondering… why do we use mind-link?”
