Wyatt didn't dare to think about it, because he knew very well that it was impossible to swim to the shore in the short time it took him to rescue Raynee. Wyatt stood by the lake for the next three days without eating or drinking. He stood where he had brought Raynee ashore. His gaze was empty as he stared out at the endless water.

During these three days, he didn't move at all. Even at night, his eyes never stopped scanning around. He went back and forth for a long time. That position was the best spot on land. It was also the easiest spot for someone to get out of the water with no external help. Any other spot was either too high or completely impossible. The place he stood was the only possible position.

However, he had already walked back and forth on this fairly long path countless times. Apart from there being a more obvious mark at the point where Raynee had gotten out, everywhere else looked so untouched that it made his heart shudder.

There were no traces of water dripping ashore or traces of anyone leaving. There weren't any along the road either. Wyatt had gone so far as to check the surveillance cameras but to no avail... That could only mean that she never made it out at all!

This fact was something that Wyatt was unwilling to accept. At the same time, he was powerless.

After three days of fishing, he managed to salvage quite a few things. He came across a hammer with a bone attached to it. There was a possibility that this was related to a homicidal case. This alerted the authorities and the police sent forensic experts as well as a search team over. Since it was a possible crime scene, Wyatt and his men's movements were restricted. However, after some negotiations, they were allowed to join in on the search effort. The only condition was that anything they fished up had to go through the police first before he could know the outcome.

As time ticked by, Wyatt's heart gradually sank. He had no objection to any of this. In fact, with the police's expert team helping with the search, it was a good thing. However, the fact that there was no evidence of anyone coming out of the water was like proof of her death for him. Every time it was brought up, it felt like a huge stab to his heart that reminded him he had killed the woman he loved.

On the evening of the third day, a member of the search team managed to fish out a woman's shoe. Having been soaked through with water, there wasn't much they could use from it. After being sent to the forensics lab, it was determined to be a recent item. Furthermore, it did not match the measurements of the bone found. Thus, it was dismissed as irrelevant evidence. Meanwhile, when Wyatt saw the shoe, he completely broke down.
