Along the way, Chet dutifully explained the surroundings while Alicia listened. She didn't concentrate on what he was saying as she had no intention of staying here for long. On the contrary, she mentally cursed Frederick. She, therefore, acted calm on the surface.

Just as she replied, the doors of the lift opened. She looked up and the words "Floor 63" emblazoned next to "International Affairs Department" came into view.

Walking out through the door, Alicia seemed to remember something before she said in a low voice, "Thanks!"

"My pleasure."

A smile was returned before Chet guided her toward the office hall off to the side. As soon as they entered, a clamor was noted in the hall, followed by various unsolicited greetings.

"Mr. Reynes..."

"Good day, Mr. Reynes!"

"Mmm!" Nodding in response, Chet headed straight for the office inside. Following behind, Alicia couldn't help but roll her eyes.

Chet really resembled someone. He was probably Frederick's duplicate! However, that showed how much influence Chet had in the company as well.

"Who is she? Why is she behind Mr. Reynes?"

"She's quite pretty! She's not a new assistant or a colleague, is she?"

"No way. Whenever the company recruits someone, there are several rounds of interviews. How can we not have heard anything?"

"Right? What's more, a beautiful woman is the first taboo of the company. She should have passed five or six interviews to get in. If she didn't pass any interviews, how could she enter the company straight away?"

"Miss Giselle, I'm just carrying out my duty! This is our new translator, Alicia Blanchard, who specializes in Russian. For the time being, she will be working in the International Affairs Department to familiarize herself with the company's businesses and processes. Later, when the Russian Department is established, there might be another arrangement for her. Miss Giselle, you will be in charge of her. From now on, she will be part of your team."

With a gesture from Chet, Alicia understood what he meant and greeted with a smile, "Miss Giselle, nice to meet you!"

Waving her hand, she then ordered.

"Lynn, please take Miss Blanchard to her preferred seat. Then, go to the office and complete the onboarding process and pick up some office supplies."

With Alicia out of the way, Giselle then tried to find out, "Mr. Reynes, what is Miss Blanchard's... status?"

She was the manager of the International Affairs Department. The recruitment process was the same for all departments and she was well aware of that. The number of employees in each department was planned and regulated. Unless there was a change in her department or a major increase in business, she was not eligible to apply to the Human Resources Department for recruitment. Once her listed requirements were approved, HR would send out a notification. The submitted resumes were then screened by both HR and her. Finally, the interviewers would include her, the Head of Personnel, and a random hearing supervisor. Interviewees were only eligible to accept the job if they had passed all the interviews. Not to mention, after the probationary period, the big boss would have to sign off the new employee before he or she could become a regular employee.

Alicia obviously didn't go through any screening. This was an unprecedented situation.

After a glance, he said, "Miss Blanchard, why don't you sit at the opposite side? The computers there should be better equipped."

There were four seats in each cubicle, along with a desk computer. Perhaps the first two seats had been empty for too long and had apparently been used for public records. Alicia felt good as she exchanged pleasantries and greetings. People from big companies were quite well-mannered!

That thought didn't last long before the mood changed. Suddenly, a shrill voice reached her.

"What country did you study in? Which university did you graduate from? Are you used to American or British English? Did you do a master's or a Ph.D.? What's your major?" "Why do your clothes look so much like L.M. Couture's? It's a knock-off, isn't it?"

"What is your relationship with Mr. Reynes? Why did he send you in? What is your field of expertise? Electrical, energy,
