Frederick's lips trembled as he asked with excitement, "Ally, you're awake?"

With a conditioned reflex, he pressed the call button at the head of the bed first, for fear that she would fall asleep again. Just like touching a fragile crystal doll, he touched her face lightly. His voice quavered.

"You're awake. That's all that matters! Don't move, don't move around!"

He saw that she was grasping her tightly, her brows furrowed, and her lips seemingly mumbling out words. Frederick moved closer to her. "What do you want to say?"

Was she feeling uncomfortable?

"I didn't, I didn't do you any wrong... I won't leave you, I'm being framed!"

Her breathing was still a little unstable. When she spoke, her entire body was in pain. Her words were choppy, as if she had used up all of her strength. After finishing her words, she could not help but shut her eyes out of exhaustion.

He was glad that she was conscious, and that she wasn't confused, but he didn't expect those to be the first words out of her mouth. Frederick was heartbroken. He rubbed her hands, and spoke in a hoarse voice.

"I know, I know everything! You don't have to say anything. Nothing matters now except for you getting better..."

While they were talking, the doctor came in and examined her. Then he looked at the medical records and adjusted her prescription before giving instructions to the nurse behind him.

"Add another pack of IV drip in the afternoon. Let's see how she's doing after three days!"

Then he turned around and looked at the two.

"From what I can see right now, the patient's condition has stabilized. The inflammation and fever have subsided. When the wound heals, she'll be fine. Try to rest and sleep more, it will help with the recovery. As for the diet, eat a light meal mainly consisting of oatmeal and vegetables. Avoid fish and seafood! More importantly, the patient has to remain calm and not get too excited. Be careful not to open up the wound again, or the patient's condition could turn critical."

"Thank you, doctor! I'll keep that in mind!"

Everything that had happened had really scared Frederick out of his wits. Hearing what the doctor said made him breathe a sigh of relief.

After sending away the doctor, Frederick sat by the bed. Alicia blinked her eyes, obviously a lot more lucid now. He watched her like a hawk, not even daring to blink. He was unable to hide his smile and relaxed posture.

"Close your eyes and sleep! I'll stay here with you!"

Turning to face him, Alicia had a warm smile on her face as she held his hand. Their eyes met, and Frederick gave her hand a kiss.

"Thank you for being so strong! Promise me, no matter what happens, never leave me!"

She'd been bullied so terribly, yet she was still willing to give up her life for him! Frederick was stunned, and at the same extremely grateful that he had her.

Alicia giggled.

The corners of her mouth lifted. "I was afraid that if I didn't wake up, I'd forever be wronged!"

In the darkness of her consciousness, she seemed to hear his voice. It led her like a light in the dark, making her have the strength to storm past that final obstacle.

If she didn't wake up, what would happen to her parents?

Thinking of this, Alicia frowned slightly. "I think I heard you say something about driving my mother out to the streets. I had to crawl back from the jaws of death!"

She wasn't sure if he had said it or not. Alicia thought she was in a daze because of the fever.

Seeing that she still knew how to joke, Frederick's heart ached even more.
