"What do you think you are doing?"

Staring at him, Alicia felt nervous in an instant and stepped backward, leaning against the elevator wall. Her eyes widened as if she was facing a great enemy.

Her reaction to being on guard against him pierced Jeremy's heart deeply. Feeling bitter and disregarded, Jeremy's lips quivered.

"You think I am going to... do something?"

Even though it was just a casual sentence from him, it was obvious to feel his pain of being rejected and questioned. From his tone, Alicia could understand his feelings and started loosened her fist gradually to let her guard down. The next second, Jeremy spoke in a despondent manner,

"I just want to stay with you a little longer!"

Despite the discomfort from being soaking wet from the rain, Jeremy felt as if he was back to the past the moment he thought of Alicia bringing him clothes. That was a time when he was being loved and cared for by her. He felt an inexplicable heartache.

Alicia, on the other hand, not only wanted to keep him at arm's length but breathed and sweated heavily that there were even goosebumps.

Therefore, for a good few minutes, she did not speak at all, but kept eyeing the elevator door from the corner of her eye.

Gradually, she felt the elevator slowed down, as if it was about to stop. After a sudden ticking sound and as Alicia moved her feet, there was a loud banging sound that shook her body. And in the next second, the entire elevator plunged into darkness. Alicia screamed.

"Aaaah!"

"Don't move, Ally. Don't be afraid and don't panic."

As Jeremy comforted her, he took out his mobile phone. Alicia opened her eyes to the faint flashlight.

What happened? Was there a blackout? Was the elevator out of order?

Instinctively, she took out her phone too, but only to find out that there was no signal. She stated to move around anxiously.

"Don't move, stand against the wall and hold tight!"

Comforting her and taking charge of the situation at the same, Jeremy pressed the elevator's emergency button as well as the buttons of each floor number.

"It's a malfunction. The elevators of such high-end residential buildings should have a standby generator and circuit breaker, why is there an outage?

Muttering to himself so as not to frighten Alicia, Jeremy kept his phone's flashlight on and continued to comfort her.

Tve already called for help! Someone will come to our rescue soon! There's no need to panic, everything will be fine. When there's the mobile network again, we’ll call for help.”

Due to the heavy rain and wind outside during this time, the CCTV monitors had been displaying pitch- black footages. The thunderstorm also drove all the security personnel to head out for inspection, leaving nobody behind to monitor the facilities. Therefore, nobody would notice their signal for help for the time being.

Inside the elevator, after acclimatizing herself to the surrounding, Alicia began to calm down.

How unlucky! Why did the elevator have to break down all of a sudden?

Being confined to such a dark and narrow space, Alicia felt that even breathing had turned difficult for her. Feeling unsettled, she paced around and banged on the elevator door. Jeremy then pulled her aside and tried to calm her down.

"Calm down and don't move around! It's dangerous. Later on, we will call for help again, surely someone will notice us! Switch off your phone now too or else your battery will go flat very quickly. Since it was raining today, we don't know what else is going on outside..."

She glared at him angrily, and then returned to a corner of the elevator feeling miffed.

This was all his fault!

She would have been sleeping soundly by now, and not here suffering with him.

However, she was not in the mood to argue with him at this moment. After all, there were only the two of them inside the elevator. To Alicia, she'd be on the losing end if she were to provoke him to anger. Hence, she remained quiet.
