"I'm getting old and useless now," Samuel murmured.

He looked up, watching as Daniel's car vanished into the rain.

"But I've prepared plenty of things for you. And this place… It shouldn't exist anymore."

Samuel pulled out a detonator and pressed it without hesitation.

A deafening explosion shattered the silence.

Daniel slammed on the brakes, and his gaze shifted to the smoke billowing behind him.

Whether Samuel's words were truth or lies no longer mattered. What Daniel did know was that after their conversation, his mind felt noticeably clearer. As for why Samuel chose to detonate the place after he left, perhaps only he knew the answer.

The deeper Daniel investigated, the more tangled everything became. But one thing was certain. Some truths didn't need to be pursued. They would come to him on their own.

Charlene sprang to her feet the moment she saw Daniel drenched, and her voice filled with concern. "What happened to you? Hurry, come inside!"

Daniel pulled Charlene into his arms and pressed against her.

Charlene protested, pushing against him. "No, you're all wet and dirty!"

"Then let's shower together," Daniel chuckled.

Charlene sensed something off in his mood. Thinking of everything he had been through, she softened. It's not like this is the first time. One more won't make a difference.

"Jennifer, you know what that bastard Daniel has been up to! Look at your cousin Bryson, he was beaten half to death!" Jacob said, his face twisted with rage.

Jennifer let out a mocking laugh. "Didn't he bring that on himself? If you called me here just for that, then there's nothing more to say."

Jacob was so furious that he slammed his hand on the table upon hearing this. "How dare you! Watch your attitude!"

"What kind of attitude do you expect from me? You all know exactly what Daniel is like. If you insist on throwing yourself at him, how is that my problem?"

Jennifer had always been the one scolded at these so-called family meetings. Even back when she first married Daniel, it had been no different.

But things had changed. Daniel was no longer the same, and neither was she. She was done being suppressed. Letting her anger loose on them was surprisingly satisfying.
