SAGE 

I can feel his domineering presence behind me as we walked towards the library. I’ve been here once, so I still remember the way to his library. But his presence looming behind me caused turmoil in my head that I was mindlessly walking without direction. 

Not only when I felt his strong arms pulling me at the waist did I realize I was going in a different direction. 

“Are you lost, kitten?” 

I quickly pushed him and put a distance between us as the warmth of his body ignited a fire within me. 

1 casually straightened my shirt and squared my shoulders, pretending as if his touch doesn’t bother me at all. 

“I thought I saw something there. I was just going to check,” I lied. I cleared my throat before turning my back and proceeding towards the library, which was only a few feet away from where we were standing. 

I pushed the door open as if I owned the room in my desperate attempt to keep my distance away from him. 

I jumped at the slight click of the door closing, sealing the both of us in this confined room. 

I turned to face him, but I was startled by how close he had gotten. His gaze darkened as he studied me, his expression unreadable. 

“You’re tense,” he murmured. “Are you nervous, Sage?” 

I swallowed hard, keeping my voice steady. “No. I just don’t appreciate you always being this close. Do you even know the word “personal space?” 

He smirked, “Funny, I don’t remember you minding it before.” 

My breath caught for a second, but I refused to react. “That was before,” I repeated for emphasis. 

The scent of old books and burning firewood wrapped around me, calming my nerves. I walked toward a chair, keeping the large desk between us. Titus strolled in at a lazy pace, his every move controlled, like a predator toying with its prey. 

Leaning against the desk, he crossed his arms over his broad chest, amusement flickering in his eyes. Then, a smile broke from his lips. A smile that could melt any woman’s heart, including mine. 

I scowled. “What’s so funny?” I asked, irritation lacing my tone. 

“You,” he replied without hesitation. 

I shot him a glare before rolling my eyes. “Glad to know I’m keeping you entertained.” 

Titus smirked, the amusement in his gaze making my irritation grow. 

“You always were amusing when you’re trying to act unaffected,” he mused. “But I can see right through you, Sage.” 

I huffed, flipping through the pages of the document in my hands, pretending his words didn’t make my pulse quicken. “You see what you want to see.” 

He let out a low chuckle, the sound sending a shiver down my spine. “Maybe,” he admitted. “But I’ve never been wrong about you before, have I?” 

I refused to look up, afraid that if I did, I’d get lost in those piercing eyes of his. Instead, I focused on the contract in front of

1. me. The words blurred slightly as my mind raced. 

“Here,” I handed him the contract once I’m done checking it. “I already encircled the parts I wanted to negotiate with.” 

“You don’t have much room to negotiate, kitten,” he murmured, his voice dangerously soft. “But I’m feeling kind tonight.” 

I turned my head slightly, finally meeting his gaze. “Kind?” I echoed, arching a brow. “Please, excuse me if I find it hard to believe.” 

His lips twitched as if he found my challenge amusing. He lazily walked around the table, going to the other side where I was standing. He was running his fingers along the edge of the table as he slowly took the distance separating us. 

“What are you doing? Stay on your side,” I uttered, panic surging within me. 

“And if I don’t? Do you really think this table can protect you from me?” 

“We’re here to talk,” I insisted. “So, I appreciate it if you maintain your distance, Your Majesty.” 

He let out a low, amused chuckle, the sound vibrating through the air between us. “So formal,” he mused, his voice velvety smooth. “Are you trying to remind yourself of the rules, Sage? Or are you trying to remind me?” 

I swallowed hard, refusing to react, refusing to acknowledge the heat pooling in my stomach at the way he said my name. 

Titus tilted his head slightly, studying me like a puzzle he was piecing together. Then, with a slow, deliberate movement, he placed his hands flat against the desk, imprisoning me in between them. 

Titus’s voice was a low growl, his breath warm against my skin. The space between us had all but disappeared, the heat of his body pressing into mine, making it impossible to think straight. His scent–woodsy and dark, laced with something undeniably masculine–wrapped around me, clouding my senses. 

“You can set all the rules you want,” he murmured, his lips so close that I swore I could feel them ghosting over mine. “But we both know rules have never kept me from getting what I want.” 

My breath hitched as I felt the warmth of his minty breath against my face, a cruel contrast to the fire licking at my insides. His gaze burned into me, piercing and demanding. 

“Sign the papers, Sage,” he ordered, his voice smooth but edged with steel. 

I clenched my jaw, shaking my head. “I told you, I will not sign—” 

“Sign the goddamn papers, Sage!” His voice cracked like a whip, sharp and commanding. This time, the heat in his tone was unmistakable, his burning red eyes locking me in place. 

His words weren’t an alpha command, yet my body responded as if they were. My fingers twitched before reaching for the pen on the table. My movements were slow and reluctant, but undeniable, as though some unseen force had taken control. 

This was the Titus I shouldn’t test. 

I swallowed hard, my throat dry, as I slowly turned my back to him. The air between us thickened, crackling like an impending storm. I could feel him, his presence, the sheer dominance that radiated off him in waves. 

Holding my breath, I leaned forward, placing my hands flat against the smooth wood of the table. The papers lay before me, the ink waiting to seal my fate. My fingers tightened around the pen as I hovered over the signature line, my heart hammering against my ribs. 

But just as the tip of the pen touched the paper, I became fully aware of something else, his growing manhood poking behind my back. 

A shudder ran through me.
