Chapter 56: Audacity of Healer

Xion had first given the food to Noxian before calling Lady Nazia over for inspection. After filling his own plate, he made his way back to his temporary residence of four days.

It wasn’t until he was sitting on his bed, inhaling the tempting aroma, that he realized how hungry he actually was.

His stomach let out a loud growl, as though agreeing with his thoughts. It took him less than five minutes to gulp everything down.

Noxian and Rael’s food was on the lighter side, but Xion had added a touch of spice to his bowl. The familiar kick of chili brought immense satisfaction to both his stomach and tongue.

After finishing his meal, he opened the system interface, scrolling through the list of special herbs. He wanted to attempt making those blue pills Rael had been taking, but two ingredients were still missing.

The Ethereal Balm of Reprieve would not be easy to create. Such rare items were part of the higher tiers of the system, far beyond his current reach.

With a resigned sigh, he waved the glowing screen shut and turned his attention to the stack of books floating in the bought section.

About an hour later, a heavy knock on his door snapped him back to his senses. Even without hearing a voice, Xion instinctively knew it was Ray.

Allen would always knock gently, and as for Rael, well, Xion had never seen him knock at all.

Draping an overcoat over his shoulders, he set his feet on the floor. A chill seeped into his bare soles, making him shudder.

While the weather was not too cold, it certainly wasn’t warm enough to be wandering around barefoot.

Shuffling into his shoes, he opened the door, and sure enough, it was Ray.

Since the morning two days ago, when Ray had helped him taste the porridge, he had been unusually quiet.

He also had not been glaring at him as he often did, which Xion found rather nice.

With a smile, he waved, "Hi, you need something?"

Ray nodded, which Xion assumed was his way of greeting.

"His Grace is looking for you."

The words made Xion startle. "Is he alright? Is he in pain?" he asked with a frown, and before his mind could register he was already moving to the room opposite to him.

"No, His Grace has something to tell you." A rough voice explained.

"Oh," Xion’s footsteps which had risen in a haste slowed down. "As long as he is fine."

Xion watched as Ray knocked on the door, a motion that clearly indicated the required visitor had arrived.

It was only now that Xion noticed how Ray always maintained a standard knight’s posture. Straight-backed and rigid face, his expression always intimidating.

Even his knock was precise and practiced, almost as if it had been lifted straight out of one of those Victorian animes.

But then again, with kings and carriages, this world did have some resemblance to that era.

The door creaked open, and Ray motioned with his chin for Xion to step inside.

Xion complied, but mid-step, he turned to say thank you, only to see the constipated-looking Ray glaring at the... wall?

Ah, it seemed the knight had just hit his thumb on the surface.

Where was the promised intimidating knight?

Holding back his laughter, Xion walked in and the door closed behind him.

Xion did not wait for the child to speak. Instead, he moved toward the sitting area where Rael had been lounging.

His long silver hair almost concealed his entire face as he leaned over the huge piece of paper spread across the table.

"You should be resting," Xion chided as he took a seat.

Darius who had been busily staring at the map, finally looked up. He pointed to the area marked on the map, "We need to reach here as soon as possible."

Xion narrowed his eyes as he tried to read the map.

I must be the only one too stupid not to know.
