Chapter 26 novel Broken Strings

MELISSA QUIZON

"Your release order is okay. You can go out tomorrow afternoon." Eugene said professionally as he looked at the record he held. Today is Wright's second day in the hospital, and he's fine and okay.

Reid is also bored here and is always looking forward to coming home to our house. So what Wright did was entertain our son. They play what-ifs. So now, my son is asleep by Wright's side again. They are getting closer and Reid is making a room for Wright.

I have already told Wright on why I use of Eugene. That I don’t really love Eugene. But I also explained to him that I was not ready to love him again. I still have a hard time trusting him.

"Eugene, wait." I followed Eugene as he walked out the door.

"Melissa, come back here."

I didn’t listen to Wright. I went out. I caught up with Eugene who was still walking as if he couldn’t hear me. "Eugene, stop."

He turned to me. I was heartbroken to see his cold expression. "Is there a problem?"

My shoulder dropped. "Don't do this to me, Eugene."

You fool, Mel. You hurt Eugene and then beg him not to do that to you? Eugene is also a human. He also get mad.

He smirked. He's mad, alright. "Do what?"

I bit my lower lip. "That. You're so cold."

He quickly approached me. His lips formed a thin line.

He grabbed both my arms. He didn't hold it tightly, it didn't hurt, but his palm was warm enough for me to know he was simmering with anger. "What should I suppose to do? What should I suppose to feel? Ha, Melissa? Tell me."

The corners of my eyes warmed up. "I'm sorry, Eu."

His expression softened and he hugged me tightly. His heart was beating fast. He was also breathing fast, as if something was chasing him, as if something was preventing it from happening.

"Melissa, I need to tell you something." He whispered. He moved away from me a little. I looked up to make our eyes close. He sighed several times before speaking. "I'm going back to London."

Boom! "Huh?"

"We will move the Main office to London so as the next CEO of the Fuertes Meds.." Words failed him.

"W-When?" Is he leaving?

He took another deep breath. "In.. .Seven days."

"You're leaving me?" My lips trembled.

"No." He stared at me. "If you choose me."

"But, Eugene—"

"If I'm the one you choose, I'll take you and Reid to London. But, if not... I have no choice, Melissa. This is my way of moving on." He says poorly. The back of his palm caressed my cheek. He wiped away the helpless tears there.

"It's so soon." I muttered. "What if I can't make a decision right away? You're still leaving? Isn't there a delay in your departure? In seven days really? Can't it be a month? What if—"

"Calm down, Woman." He cupped both of my cheeks. I stopped speaking. "It can't be a month, Mel. I'm reluctant to leave. If I last that long, I know I won't be able to leave."

"I don't want you to leave." I do not want. I do not want.

"Why? Is it because you already love me or are you just afraid to be alone again?" He pressed our foreheads together. "I'm having a hard time, Melissa. You and Reid deserve the very best. But, only you can decide what's best for you. Not me, not Wright, not the people around you. You." He adds. "If I leave, what will you lose? Friend? Participate in hardship and comfort?"

I cannot talk. I don’t know what to say. I was feeling, whatever words came out of my mouth would hurt Eugene.

"What, Melissa?" He kindly said.

I stared at him. "I'll make up my mind in seven days. Can you wait?"

"I've waited this long." He smiled but that didn't reach his eye. "I'll prepare your passport... J-Just in case."

"Thank you, Eugene." I hugged him tightly.

"For you. Just you, Sweetheart." He kissed me on the cheek before turning around and walking away again. When he was far away I sighed.

I was about to enter but Reid preceded me in opening.

"Mommy!" He’s panicking call to me. "Daddy, he’s bleeding!"

"Huh?" I hurried inside.

I saw Wright's hand bleed. The attached IV there is also gone.

I approached him. I held his bleeding hand. There was a little blood on its bed as well. "Wright! What have you done !?"

"Do I really need to hurt myself just so you would come to me?" He said in an annoying tone.

I growled.

He growled back.

"Reid, go get the alcohol in the cabinet." I ordered Reid and he obey immediately.

I knew something about first aid so I immediately stopped the bleeding. I also put a bandage on it to keep it from getting infected. I’m annoyed. I'm really annoyed. WTF!

"Why do you have to do this, Wright?" I said angrily. I stood up and placed both my hands on my waist.

He hugged me and buried his face in my stomach. Shit! "I hate it when you smell like him."

"Hello, Agoncillios!" We looked at the door. Racky looked at us. "Oh my gosh! Blood!"

"Are you committing suicide, Wright?" Fier appeared behind Racky.
