“Uncle, what happened?”

Gallagher was quick to anger, but just as quick to let it go.

Now, noticing there was company, he reined in his scowl and forced a smile. “It’s nothing, come in, Serena. Have a seat.”

“I’m not going in until you tell me what’s going on.”

“You stubborn kid…”

Elaine was already beside herself with worry. Hearing Serena press the issue, she quickly chimed in, “Just tell her, Gallagher. Serena’s practically family.”

Gallagher let out a weary sigh. “Well, I’m not even sure what Gabrielle did to get on Aaron’s bad side. He just called me, told me to keep my daughter in line or else—”

He rubbed his temples, trailing off.

But Serena understood immediately.

Gabrielle had reported Aaron to headquarters.

What Serena didn’t expect was Aaron’s threatening call would come so soon.

Apparently, Cynthia Lynwood wasn’t allowed to suffer the slightest injustice.

“Don’t worry, Uncle, Auntie,” Serena said. “I know Aaron. Gabrielle’s not someone who oversteps her bounds. It’s probably nothing serious. I’ll talk to Aaron.”

Hearing that Serena actually knew Aaron, Gallagher and Elaine looked at her with relief and hope.

“That would be a huge help,” Gallagher said.

Serena couldn’t stand the gratitude in their eyes. It made her chest tighten with guilt.

She turned away quickly and headed out.
