Can’t Win Me Back Chapter 10
Nathan’s expression gradually softened as he assisted Victoria into the doctor’s office. After reviewing Victoria’s medical report, the doctor did not say much at first, but his serious demeanor shifted as he turned to Nathan.
“Where is Mrs. Hill’s medical report?” the doctor inquired. solemnly.
Nathan Hill, who had just calmed down, felt his mood darken once again. Victoria quickly answered for him. “Oh, my Sis is abroad.”
The doctor frowned. “Even though Mrs. Hill is the donor, her health cannot be neglected. Furthermore,” he continued, revealing a hidden concern, “the day she was discharged, I found her bed sheets and bedding stained with blood during my rounds. Several days post–surgery, there shouldn’t have been such heavy bleeding. This suggests a complication.”
“Mr. Hill, could it be that Mrs. Hill has other health issues? You should urge her to return for a check–up to rule out potential hidden conditions. Truthfully, she was too weak to be discharged in the first place,” the doctor concluded with a sigh.
Nathan’s face turned pale, and his grip on Victoria’s hand tightened painfully, almost making her cry out. He hadn’t known that Isabella was in such a poor condition the day she left for abroad. If he had, he would never have allowed her to leave.
Seeing the doctor’s pointed concern, Victoria quickly deflected the blame onto herself. “Doctor, this isn’t Mr. Hill’s fault. My Sis was adamant about going abroad. She admires Western life and insisted on leaving despite.everything. Mr. Hill had no choice but to agree.”
The doctor shot her a look filled with disdain, seeing through but not commenting on her excuse.
“Mr. Hill,” the doctor said, turning his attention back to Nathan, “Mrs. Hill’s body will never be the same after donating her kidney. You must ensure she seeks regular medical attention. If she continues acting recklessly, even a robust constitution would fail her. She might end up faring worse than the recipient of her kidney.”
The doctor’s final remark caused Nathan’s face to collapse into a grimace of frustration. “You were her attending physician. How could you not know the cause of her heavy bleeding?” he demanded.
The doctor looked taken aback, his mouth twitching as if holding back a retort. After a pause, he calmly explained, “Mr. Hill, based on Mrs. Hill’s previous medical reports, her health seemed normal. Her surgical recovery was also proceeding well. The sudden bleeding may have been caused by infection at the surgical site or…”
The doctor paused, meeting Nathan’s gaze with measured seriousness. “I suspect she may have had a miscarriage.”
“That’s impossible,” Nathan denied immediately.
The doctor’s confusion was evident. “Her symptoms strongly resemble the heavy bleeding caused by taking mifepristone pills.”
Nathan’s mind reeled. Mifepristone? His voice wavered as he asked, “What are those used for?”
“To terminate a pregnancy,” the doctor replied bluntly.
All color drained from Nathan’s face. That evening, after Isabella agreed to donate her kidney for Victoria, he had been overwhelmed with joy and let his emotions overtake him, crossing a line he’d promised not to. Could it be that she became pregnant after that night? And if so, why hadn’t she told him? Why would she secretly terminate the pregnancy?
His tall frame shook as he murmured, “Why would she do that?”
The doctor’s tone turned incredulous. “Mr. Hill, Mrs. Hill is your wife. Would she terminate a pregnancy without discussing it with you first?”
