Troy turns on the lights and finds her sit in the sofa alone. He asks gently, “Why not go to bed?”

“Let’s have a talk.”

Karin looks at him remorselessly, “Have you read William’s e-mail?”

After a moment of silence, Troy nods. “Yes.” He’s calm as usual.

“Also the photos?”

“Yes.”

She instantly rises to her feet and questions him, “Why? Why to pretend as if you know nothing? Why don’t you tell me you can’t bear it? If you want to keep secrets from me, we can’t get married. Why don’t you tell me?”

Karin cries and throws her fists at her chest. She used to think the most terrible thing is to see him indulge himself in wine, but now she realizes the worst thing is to see him hide all his emotions away. If he continues his abnormal behaviors, they can’t be happy after getting married…

Then Troy press her down to sit in the sofa again. Looking into her eyes, he asks her, “Were you on the pill after that night in the hotel?”

She’s dumbfounded and shakes her head. “No.”

“Because I don’t think there’s anything happened between us.”

“Do you still think so now? After reading the e-mail.”

“Troie, I know you mind the words in the e-mail, but you can’t believe William’s words. You know he doesn’t want us to get married, and his e-mail holds intent.”

“Then tell me what it is?”

Karin looks down at the floor and answers, “He may just want me to remember him forever.”

“Why?”

“Because he purposely conceals the truth to prevent me from getting over it. And I’ll think of him from time to time.”

Troy sneers, “It’s your own thoughts. What if he has slept with you? Have you thought about the terrible consequences?”

“I felt too awful to think of the possible consequences.”

“But you’ve been on the pill when we’re together, right?”

Karin’s shocked as she doesn’t understand why does he asks her about strange questions. When she’s about to answer his question, he just laughs at himself.

“Do you think I can’t accept the facts? He sneers, “You’re wrong. The photos and e-mails mean nothing to me as you’re the one I really love. And I can bear more.”

“You’re pregnant.”
