"No, I just… I’m just not used to this." Zoe wished she could disappear into a hole.

She couldn't understand why Nash, who knew she worked in the advertising department, would arrange for her to meet with Eugene.

No matter how hard she thought, she couldn’t recall any advertising collaboration with the Lowe Corporation. Then, a sudden thought struck her, and it startled her.

With an uneasy heart, she entered the meeting room, only to find out that Nash wasn't even in the office. Zoe felt a surge of anger.

"Miss Zoe—no, Manager Zoe—how about a cup of tea first?"

Eugene, knowing full well that Zoe had been tricked into coming, chose not to reveal it. If Nash had set this up, he must have understood Eugene's intentions, so there was no need to hide anything.

After drinking a cup of tea, Eugene felt light-headed, as if he had consumed alcohol. He knew Nash wasn’t the type to use underhanded methods, but if he hadn’t been sure of that, he might have suspected something was wrong with the tea.

"Mr. Lowe, what kind of business are you here to discuss with us?" Zoe intended to get straight to the point. If it wasn’t part of her responsibilities, she would look for an excuse to bow out.

Eugene stood up and drank a glass of water, but it did nothing to relieve his dizziness. Frustrated, he narrowed his eyes.

In a few steps, he closed the distance between them, leaned on the table, and got dangerously close. "Miss Zoe, what exactly is York Corporation trying to do? Have I overestimated you all?"

"I don’t know what you’re talking about."

Zoe detected the disdain in his voice and pushed him aside, stepping away as she reminded him, "If Mr. Lowe has no official business to discuss, then I won’t keep you company. I have other matters to attend to and don’t have time for idle chatter."

"Drugging me in the tea. Isn’t that an attempt to do something to me?"

Eugene sneered, and in two steps, he had her trapped against the wall, his face inches from hers. "However, if something were to happen between us, I wouldn’t mind. But after that, I might see you and York Corporation in a very different light."

Zoe was stunned.

Nash would never deceive her. York Corporation had no reason to make such a sacrifice. This shouldn't be happening. It just couldn’t be…

Zoe didn’t dare to look at him, but after a while, when she heard no response. She turned her head and found herself staring into his deep, sorrowful eyes. She froze.

The look in his eyes, filled with pain and struggle, seemed to reach out and grab her, as if trying to hold her back. It was almost as if he was silently crying out in agony, and to her surprise, she felt a pang of sympathy for him.

Without thinking, her hands began to lift, almost touching Eugene’s face. But he quickly stepped back, putting some distance between them.

"Miss Zoe, I believe you didn’t know about this. But the fact remains. I’ve been drugged. Please leave. I’m afraid I won’t be able to control myself and might end up hurting you."

Zoe bolted out of the meeting room and rushed to the secretary, urgently asking about the tea. The secretary looked baffled, clearly unaware of what she was talking about.

Frustrated, Zoe demanded, "Where is Nash? Does he think that by staying away, I’ll forgive him? Tell him that if he resorts to these kinds of tactics, how is he any different from William?"
