Pushing the frustration aside, she reminded herself to trust Quincy. “I still can’t stay here. I’ve already been here too long. I need to go home tonight,” she said, her voice steady. “I’ll pack up and leave. If it’s possible, I’d appreciate a ride, but if not, I’ll manage.”

Lydia’s expression turned complicated. “It’s… a long story, Mom. I’ll explain later.”
