Nina and Nash discussed the plan further, though Nash wasn’t thrilled about bringing her along. “Are you sure he’ll have time for the kids?” he asked, hoping to find another reason for her to stay. “Last time, when we just wanted him to watch them for a weekend, he was too busy. This trip will be even longer. Maybe it’s not such a good idea.”

Nina saw right through him and met his gaze with a steady resolve. “Nash, stop looking for reasons to keep me behind. Even if you leave without me, I’ll still find my way to you. I’m not some weak girl. You really think I’d just hold you back?”

“That’s not it at all,” Nash replied, pulling her close.

He knew she was more than capable. Nina was strong, intelligent, and unflinchingly brave. But as her husband, it was hard to imagine letting her take on a dangerous situation without doing everything he could to shield her from it.

“We’re both parents, Nash. We’re in this together, so let’s make decisions together too,” Nina’s voice was soft but firm.

Looking into her eyes, Nash finally relented and nodded. He leaned down and pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead. “Together. No matter what comes our way, we’ll face it. Meeting you, Nina, that’s my luck in life.”

Nina breathed in Nash’s familiar scent and felt a wave of reassurance. She was just as grateful for him. Nash was a wonderful father, an incredible husband. Being with him, she had never had a single regret.

They exchanged a few more words, finalizing their plan before opening the door to leave. Standing at the top of the stairs was Orion, clutching a toy in his hand, looking torn.

He had wanted to ask his parents for help but knew they had gone into the room to discuss something important.

If he barged in, he might interrupt them. So, with this thought in mind, he had simply waited by the stairs until they came out.
