“Exhaustion?” Micah immediately recalled everything Freya had done to help him.

If he had known it would lead to this, he would have stayed up all night himself to finish everything, rather than let her take on even a bit of the burden. Would the baby still be with them if he hadn’t let her help?

Micah voiced his question, “Did the miscarriage happen because Freya was too exhausted?”

“It could be a factor,” the doctor said, “but it’s never just one cause. The health of both parents plays a role in these things since a pregnancy relies on both. Blaming one person is neither fair nor accurate.”

“I understand. Thank you, doctor. Could you prescribe something to help her recover?” Micah’s main focus now was ensuring Freya’s health.

But Freya had another concern. She looked at the doctor, asking, “This was a natural miscarriage, but does that mean I can still have children? I read that some women are predisposed to miscarriages. If it happens once, it can keep happening, and after enough times, they may not be able to have children at all.”

Just the thought of that felt like her world was collapsing. She did not dare dream of a second or third child now. Just one would be enough.

Micah’s brows knitted tightly. “Freya, I know you’re heartbroken right now, but don’t say that. No matter how hard things are, you can’t just push me away to someone else.”

“But I couldn’t even carry this one baby,” she whispered, wiping the tears from her face. “You wanted this child so much, and the doctor even said it’s because of my body. It’s not fair to you if I can’t be a mother. I don’t want to keep you from being a father.”

Freya wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes, and Micah leaned in, capturing her lips in a fierce, unrelenting kiss.
