Jamie stayed silent, tears streaming down her face. Once she had gathered all the money, Ben threw a piece of clothing at her. "Put it on, right here in front of me."

She glanced at it and felt a surge of shame. There was hardly any fabric at all, mostly black lace, sheer and revealing. If this were a moment of intimacy, she might not have minded the outfit as much, but right now, it felt purely degrading.

“Aren’t you going to change? Or do you need my help?” Ben’s gaze was unyielding, making her feel exposed.

They had been physically close many times, but she couldn’t bring herself to change in front of him like this. Quietly, she asked, “Can I at least change in the other room?”

“In your sister’s room, perhaps?” he replied sharply, his patience gone. Without waiting for her consent, he grabbed her shirt and ripped it apart. “I’ll say it again. Change. Now.”

She had no choice but to comply. With the living room windows open, she could feel the cold air on her skin, amplifying her discomfort.

After she was dressed, Ben pulled her into the kitchen, positioning her at the counter. He stood behind her, hands on her as she washed vegetables.

As she stood there, he took advantage, pressing himself against her and having his way with her from behind, leaving her with little choice but to comply.

Afterward, he directed her to start chopping vegetables. She was completely drained, her body barely able to hold steady, and her hands trembled as she tried to slice, resulting in uneven, clumsy cuts.

Suddenly, she heard Winnie’s voice in the living room, drawing closer. “Jack, I just took a quick nap. Why don’t I help with the chopping? You’ve been doing everything yourself. I feel bad.”

Jamie’s heart nearly stopped. If Winnie walked in and saw them, that would be disastrous.

“I’ve done everything you wanted,” Jamie whispered, her voice breaking. “Just let me change into something else. Please don’t make me stay like this, Ben.”

But her tears did nothing to soften him. “You don’t remember what I told you, do you? How are you supposed to address me?”

Jamie hesitated, unwilling to speak the words. Seeing her silence, Ben reached out and lifted her thigh, forcing Jamie to retreat, her face pale as she uttered the required words. Only then did he relent and let her go.

Once he was gone, she opened the kitchen door a crack, checking to see if Winnie was in the living room. When she saw it was clear, she dashed to her room. Inside, she locked the door, crying quietly as she scrubbed her skin in the shower, rubbing until she was red and raw.

Recalling Ben’s parting words, she forced herself to slip back into the lace outfit, pulling a thick robe over it.
