“Alright. Thank goodness he has friends like you. Otherwise, I’d have no idea what to do right now.” Mrs. Lucas recounted the situation in detail but carefully omitted her own involvement.

The living room fell silent, and everyone’s expressions darkened.

“I raised Ben. I know my son. He would never do something like this. It must be a setup,” Mrs. Lucas said, her voice trembling with emotion. The more she spoke, the more heartbroken she felt. All she could think about now were her Ben’s virtues.

Apart from refusing to listen to her about marriage and career plans, Ben had always been a good son.

“Don’t worry, Mrs. Lucas. We’ll do everything we can,” Lydia reassured her, offering a few more comforting words before the group took their leave.

Mrs. Lucas personally escorted them to the door, repeatedly thanking and reminding them as they left. She stood at the gate, watching until they drove away, before returning inside.

As they got into the car, Lydia turned to Nash. “Why did you come alone today? Where’s Nina?”

“She’s at the hospital with Pharaoh. The doctors said his late-stage cancer is hard to treat, but with a positive mindset and consistent care, he could still have up to five years. She wants to spend as much time with him as she can,” Nash said, fully understanding her decision.
