Ben grabbed his keys and headed for the door. His assistant immediately called out, “Mr. Lucas, where are you headed? Should I adjust your schedule?”

“No need. Cancel all my afternoon appointments.” Ben left these words behind as he strode out toward the parking lot.

Sitting in his car, he couldn’t help but berate himself. “What am I doing? Chasing after her again, just because of one vague comment.”

After hesitating for a moment, he still decided to go check it out.

Meanwhile, two men with hardened expressions were watching him closely in a black car nearby. One of them nudged his partner.

“Hey, isn’t that him?”

The other man, who had been typing a message on his phone, looked up sharply. His eyes narrowed as he saw Ben step into his luxury car.

“That’s him. It’s because of his defense that my son got such a harsh sentence. Even if he turned to ash, I’d recognize him.”

“He’s heading out alone. Isn’t this the perfect chance?”

The two exchanged a look of agreement. The driver started tailing Ben’s car, while the man in the passenger seat made a call, seemingly summoning reinforcements.

Ben followed his GPS to a small, tucked-away cafe, finally arriving after a few wrong turns. Once inside, his eyes scanned the place, but there was no sign of Jamie. His lips pressed into a thin line, and his brow furrowed.

“Was she messing with me again?” he muttered.

Just as frustration began to bubble up, he turned and saw Jamie standing silently behind him.

She approached cautiously, her demeanor uneasy. “You’re here.”

Ben’s expression hardened as he let out a derisive laugh. “Last night, you were threatening to call the cops. And now this? Jamie, what kind of game are you playing this time?”

Jamie bit her lip hard, forcing herself to meet his gaze. “Consider this me begging you.”

Before Ben could respond, the screech of tires shattered the tense silence. A group of burly men jumped out of a van and rushed toward them.

Ben’s instincts kicked in immediately. He pushed Jamie behind him and shouted, “Run!”

Jamie quickly realized these men were targeting Ben. Being a defense attorney, it wasn’t surprising he had made enemies.

Before she could react further, the men were upon them. Ben stepped forward to confront them, fighting off the attackers. Despite his strength and agility, he was outnumbered and the attackers were clearly prepared.

The chaos outside the cafe grew louder as the struggle intensified. Jamie watched in terror, her heart pounding as she tried to think of what to do.

However, just as the attacker was about to stab Ben with a knife, Jamie lunged forward without a second thought.
