“Are you really that afraid of me? If you’re so scared, then why did you leave me in the first place?”

“You tyrant.” Caleb muttered a curse before hanging up abruptly.

Exactly ten minutes later, the roar of an engine echoed outside as Caleb’s car screeched to a halt.

He rushed inside, barely catching his breath before Ben dragged him upstairs to the bedroom.

“Take a look at her. What’s going on here? She’s had the shot and taken the medication, but there’s no improvement. If anything, it’s worse. She’s burning up, and I can’t wake her.” Ben’s tone was edged with urgency.
