When Jamie reflected on how long it had been since she had any time to herself, she felt a pang of realization.

Glancing at Ben beside her, she suddenly understood why he had orchestrated this brief escape.

They stayed an extra day in Bay City before flying back. Ben, though silent about his concerns, clearly couldn’t shake his sense of responsibility for the company. Jamie, on the other hand, was preoccupied with thoughts of Linda and Charlie.

The moment Charlie saw her, he lit up. “Mommy, you’re home!”

He leapt into her arms, causing Jamie to stumble a little as she tried to catch him.

“Charlie, be careful,” she said with a laugh. “Mommy can’t keep up with you anymore.”

Charlie, realizing his mistake, stepped back sheepishly. “I’m sorry, Mommy.”

“It’s okay, sweetheart. As long as you’re healthy and happy, that’s all Mommy needs,” Jamie reassured him.

After settling back in, Jamie noticed a surprising improvement in Linda’s condition. Filled with hope, she took Linda for a thorough checkup.

The doctor delivered promising news. “The damaged areas of the brain are beginning to self-repair. With proper medication and care, there’s a chance for significant recovery.”

Although the doctor couldn’t give a timeline, it was enough to lift Jamie’s spirits.

Back home, Jamie eagerly asked the helper about the past few days, hoping to uncover the reason behind her mother’s progress.

The helper thought for a moment. “Nothing particularly unusual happened. But Mrs. Lewis had frequent nightmares. Whenever she woke up, she’d hold that diamond bracelet and call your name.”

Hearing this, Jamie felt a wave of bittersweet emotion. Still, she focused on the positive. It was still progress, no matter the cause.

Later, Charlie approached her with a hesitant look. “Mommy, is Grandma sick?”

Yet, not only had Charlie figured it out on his own, but he had also accepted it wholeheartedly.

“It’s because you’ve raised him well,” Ben replied, his tone carrying quiet admiration.

The conversation shifted, and Jamie brought up Noah’s failure to secure the Gem Harbor project. “What about Mr. Lucas? How’s he reacting to Noah missing out on the project?”

“Noah’s been removed from the company,” Ben said casually, as though it were just another routine business update.

Jamie’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Removed? What happened?”

Ben adjusted his sleek mechanical watch, his fingers tapping lightly against his chair as he spoke with deliberate indifference. “The board made the decision today. Their reason? Noah isn’t biologically related to the Lucas family.”
