Zoe had no idea Sally would call her, and her temper flared. "What's the matter? Did Miranda tell you something? So what if I did something to her!"
"Where are you now?" Sally only wanted to confront Zoe.
"Why should I tell you? Who do you think you are!" Zoe stopped eating her nuts and swung her hand. She was just looking for a way to vent her pent-up anger.
Sally sneered, "Are you scared now? Scared I'll come after you? I know your beauty salon got vandalized, and now you're hiding like a turtle!"
"Scared? Have I ever been scared of you all these years? If you hadn't married into the York family with William, I wouldn't even acknowledge you as part of our family!" Zoe retorted.
"Fine, then come out. Let's confront each other face to face!" Sally declared.
"Come out if you dare, Sally! If you want to confront me head-on and tear each other apart, then I won't give you any face either!" With that, Zoe hung up the phone and grabbed her bag to leave.
Seeing this, Nina called out, "Aunt Zoe, where are you going? I'll go with you."
Zoe looked at Nina. "You don't need to go. Sally wants to stand up for Miranda. I'll give her this chance. Let's see if she can turn the tables!"
"Aunt Zoe..." Nina followed, but only saw Zoe hailing a taxi and leaving.
"Scott, I want to go too," Nina said.
Zoe's gaze shifted from Sally's face to Miranda, and she sneered, "What can I say about you? You're so kind to Miranda, but does she even appreciate it? If only half of that kindness was directed towards Nash, you wouldn't be in this situation. After so many years in the York family, you still haven't figured out your place!"
"I don't need you to lecture me," Sally said, her tone icy. "No matter what, Nash and I are mother and son. What right do you have to intervene? You're just his aunt, after all, there's always a bit of distance. Am I, as his mother, not closer to him than you?"
Zoe stood before her, a smile playing on her lips. "Of course, I'm closer than you. After all, you were the one who didn't want him. If it weren't for me, he would have died in the cradle."
Sally's eyes welled with tears as she continued, "If you want to bring up the past, then blame it on your York family. It's William who didn't want, it's all because of him. Otherwise, how could I end up being treated like an outsider?"
As they spoke, Zoe could not bring herself to agree with William's actions, but she harbored even more disdain towards Sally.
