Chapter 13

Kaia's POV

Lylah hasn't stopped dancing around since Kieran left us to finish getting ready. And this time, I couldn't blame her. It was just a kiss on the forehead and I haven't even stopped thinking about it. I couldn't help but wonder what it would be like when he actually kisses me.

“You don't have to think, you can just grab him and see for yourself." Lylah sang, sounding too excited for her own liking.

“And look like a crazy woman? No, thank you." I said, rolling my eyes as I wrapped my towel around me before stepping out of the bathtub.

“You're crazy about him, same difference.”

“And you came to that conclusion after a normal conversation? We just talked, that's all."

“I would believe you if I wasn't there myself. King and I could feel the sexual tension."

I choked on my saliva, “I'm going to block you if you keep this up." I threatened, but she just rolled her eyes.

“You're going to have to face it sooner or later."

I blocked her.

After dressing in a comfortable jean and top, I put my hair in a bun and sat on the couch, waiting for Kieran to be back so he would escort me to meet Dani and Ryder.

After sitting for about ten minutes and he still didn't come, I went in search of him. He would be in his office and since I've been there before, it shouldn't be that hard to find.

But clearly I was wrong when five minutes later, I was standing at the entrance of a large room, staring at the faces of over fifty people who were laughing and eating without a care in the world. And instead of leaving, I watched them interact with one another, putting their ranks aside.

“Who are you?" A loud voice booms behind me, the voice belonging to a large woman, causing the room to suddenly go quiet and focus their attention on me.

I froze like deer caught in the headlight, “umm…Kaia.” I stammered, my voice barely audible. But with our hearing ability, I knew she heard me and probably did everyone else in the room.

“I'm just looking for Kieran."

The moment that left my mouth, a collective gasp and whispers went up in the air.

“Nice going, Kaia." I thought, wincing. “I should've just sat down in the room."

I contemplated running away but before I could decide, a girl walked towards me, no trace of smile on her face. She looked older than me but with probably as year or two. And with each step she took, I took one backward but she caught up with me.

“Who do you think you are, calling the Alpha by his name?" She asked, her voice lacking warmth, while her eyes threw daggers at me.

“It's…umm.” I stammered.

"Tear the bitch’s face.” Lylah said, pushing herself to the surface.

"You sounded bold a second ago, where did that go?"

"I-I'm…”

As I stood there, feeling embarrassed and self-conscious, Kieran appeared behind me, his presence sudden and reassuring. I didn't see him approach, but I felt his warmth, as he stood behind me. My body leaned into him.

“Alpha…” the girl in front of me called, bowing to him. Her voice suddenly became sugary sweet.

He ignored her greeting as his eyes narrowed, his gaze fixed on her and his voice dropped to a low, warning growl. "That's enough, Ida," he said, his tone firm and commanding. "You will not speak to my mate in such a manner."

Ida's face paled, and she took a step back, her eyes darting nervously to me before returning to Kieran. The room fell silent, with all eyes fixed on Kieran, probably surprised by the announcement.

Without giving them time to get over their shock, he took my hand, leading me away.

“Sorry about her, are you okay?" He asked, once we were at a safe distance from the pack members and the anger in his eyes had subsided.

I nodded, “I was coming to find you, but I must've missed a turn." I murmured, my face turning red from embarrassment.

“It's okay. And I'm sorry I kept you waiting, something came up and you weren't in the room when I got there."

“It's okay."

We continued to his office, where Caleb and Ryder were already seated, going through some paperwork. But on seeing me, a wide smile appeared on Ryder's face as he stretched open his hands.

“Luna!" He exclaimed.
