Chapter 28

Kaia's POV

(Continuation)

The door opened, revealing Ida and once her eyes met mine, a smirk appeared on her lips knowing I heard her.

“Luna…are you okay?” Dani asked, tapping my arm lightly but I hesitated, unsure of how to respond.

“Was I okay? My mate, who I was growing attached to, was looking to choose another mate and just like before, I would be thrown to the side. Only that this time would be more painful.

"Kaia…Kaia." She repeated, finally snapping me out of my thoughts.

“Good thing you're here, I don't have to repeat myself." Ida said.

“Don't listen to her," Allie said, glaring at Ida, who didn't look moved by it. She shrugged and crossed her hands in front of her.

“What does she mean by chosen mate? And that everyone knows about it?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

Allie came forward, holding my hand in a reassuring manner even though that was the last thing I wanted to feel. "It's not important, don't listen to her.” She said.

Dani nodded, "it was way before he found you, but Alpha never agreed to it. That's why he kept searching for you.”

Ida snorted, "of course, they wouldn't want to break your fragile heart.”

“You didn't really think the Alpha was going to keep you for long, did you?” Her smile twisted, a pleased look on her face.

It felt like I'd been punched in the lungs, a lot of things went on in my head.

Allie's head jerked towards her, her eyes filled with anger, “that's enough, Ida." She snapped, taking a protective stance in front of me.

Ida went quiet for a few seconds before she spoke again. Each of her words, more painful than the last. I heard Lylah murmuring something to me, but none of what she said registered in my brain.

Putting her hands on her hips, she shrugged, “You know I'm right.” She started, "or why hasn't she been announced as ‘Luna’ yet?” She spat, calling the word Luna with so much disgust in her voice

“Or why isn't she wearing his mark?"

Allie's hand left mine and faced Ida. “One more word out of you, and you'll be waking up tomorrow in the dungeon.” She threatened, her voice low and menacing, shutting Ida up.

“I can't believe you're choosing to support her." Ida said, walking away.

Once she left, I fell to the floor, wrapping my hands around myself like a shield. Tears pricked at the corner of my eyes but I bit my lips to hold them back. I didn't want to give her the satisfaction that she was right.

“What type of Luna cries because she was hurt by the words of someone?"

"I'm sorry, Kaia. Ida is just being a fool.” Allie apologized, but I shook my head.

"I'm okay, I just…I need a minute." I said, wiping the tears from my eyes.

Opening the door to her room widely, she and Dani helped me inside. But I'd barely sat down when the door burst open and Kieran strode in, his eyes scanning the room before landing on me.
