Chapter 71

Caleb's POV

“Those bastards!" I thought. They made a mistake coming for my mate just to send a message to me.

My footsteps echoed off the wall as I made my way to the dungeon where Dylan was. As much as I'd suggested talking to you about the witches, it doesn't take away the fact that I wanted him to remain in there.

“Do you think he’s going to talk?” Ryder asked, walking beside me, his expression unreadable.

“That's the last thing ww need to worry about. If i have to cut him open bit by bit for that to happen, then i’m going to do exactly that.” I replied.

"No one hurts mate and gets away with it!” My wolf growled.

The warriors guarding him bowed when they saw us and moved out of the way. He was sprawled on the floor and the slow rising and falling of his chest being the only indication that he was alive. His body wasn't healing even after the wolfsbane stopped coming.

“Open the door." I commanded, moving backwards.

“Yes, Beta Caleb."

The door swung opened and one of the warriors dragged him out, leaving him at my feet. He had stopped talking after saying the same thing about only coming here because he wanted seeing someone.

But he was a Beta, I doubt he was that foolish, risking his life repeatedly for the same reason. Now, knowing the pack he was from made everything make sense

“Carry him and follow me."

They paused, their eyes darting between each other and then back at me. Their body visibly trembling. I didn't blame them, the last time they opened the door, they slept in the cell for a few days.

“Is there a problem?" I asked, my voice low and bored.

"N-no, Beta.”

Ryder chuckled through our mindlink, "take it easy on them, they have ptsd from the last time.” He laughed.

I scoffed, "they can cry in their mates’ arms when they're done.” I replied, before turning my back and going up the stairs. This time, they followed without hesitation.

I picked a room from one of the empty rooms before mind-linking the doctor who came almost immediately like he was already in the pack house. His stethoscope hung around his neck.

“Where's my patient?" He asked, and I pushed the door open.

We let him get to work while we waited outside. Luna Kaia approached us after a while and the smile as I spoke to Ryder disappeared.

“Hi Ryder, Caleb." She said.

“Deal with it." I mind-linked Ryder, whose head whips to mine. “You're Beta for a reason. And you know that no one can refuse her if she wants something." He argued.

“Luna." We greeted.

She nodded, “how is he? Is the doctor still inside?" She asked.

Up until the previous day when she found and healed my mate, a part of me couldn't stand her. I wondered how Kieran was able to forgive her easily. I tried to understand why she was putting herself in danger for someone who didn't give a shit about her but no matter what i thought of, it didn't make sense.

And then Kieran was in his Lycan form all night after she’d refused to listen to him. As his Beta and best friend, i’d seen him in so many distraught state…even felt some of them, but this was completely different.

“He's being treated, but you can't be here." I told her, when Ryder wouldn't stop smiling at her.
