Chapter 85
Kieran's POV
If there was anything I hated more than being away from Kaia, it was waiting. The full moon was only a few hours away and we needed to get the flowers and also get on with the solution before it was over. I could've easily assigned it to my warriors, but I'd rather not wait a whole month for the next full moon…I did bring some of them along.
“This shit is fucking uncomfortable!" Caleb grumbled, shifting uncomfortably.
“Good thing we're not here on a vacation, don't you think?" I asked him, but he just ignored me and continued looking for the best way to rest his head.
The flower we wanted to get could only be found in the mystic’s glen, which was a secluded and enchanted forest where various types of flowers which would normally not grow in Packs were found and only under the full moon.
It wasn't close to any other Pack, so we could only make do of the things we brought along but they were nowhere near comfortable.
But once we get what we came for, all of this will be over. And I would be able to sleep beside Kaia…it's only been about two days, but to me it felt longer and even King was giving me his own shit.
“Do you think this is going to work?" I heard Caleb ask after a while.
"I didn't spend days away from my mate for something that wouldn't work."
“My wolf is itching to rip off their throat, so it better works."
I'm sure King was feeling the same way also but we first need to get information out of them before doing that.
“Listen up, everyone." I started, my voice echoing through the cave that had become our temporary home. “We have a few hours before the moon is fully out, so get some very much needed sleep."
“Yes, Alpha." They chorused, and soon, the sound of their shuffling reached my ears.
Although I didn't feel like sleeping, I still laid my head on the bag. Several images of Kaia filled my head. What she was doing, if she missed me as much as I missed her.
Her smell was almost gone from one of my shirts which she often wore to sleep. I inhaled what was still left of her smell and I felt myself slowly drifting off to sleep, only waking up when King started pacing, struggling to come to the surface.
As I opened my eyes, the darkness of the cave had given way to the soft glow of the full moon that casted a shadow at the entrance of the cave.
Caleb and the warriors were already awake and getting ready to move. I'm sure they were also eager to get it done.
“Alright! Listen up." My voice rang out, causing all of them to stop what they were doing to look at me. “We have gone over this several times, and I'm certain you know what to do out there.”
“Yes, Alpha."
The flower was supposed to be a delicate one that needed to be handled with care to avoid all of its important parts falling off in the process of collecting it. All of these were things we discussed when we came here.
"We don't have time to play around, so get to work. We'll gather back here in two hours.”
"Yes, Alpha.” They chorused, making their way towards the light.
The air was filled with the scent of blooming flowers, and the sounds of crickets, distant hooting of owls and other night insects could be heard as we went further into the forest. The rustle of leaves and the snapping of twigs beneath our feet was another sound that filled the air.
And apart from our night vision, the moon served as a source of light for us as we got to work.
More than two hours later, we had collected more than enough flowers and secured them safely. And since we needed to make the solution on time and everyone was also eager to get back to the Pack, we didn't wait for daylight as we began our journey back.
“Ryder is one lucky bastard," Caleb complained after a while.
