Chapter 114
“Ms Pennyfeather, did you drop something?” Maria asked, looking slightly worned and instinctively starting to look around.
“Nah, just a book that fell on the floor,” Maja clarified
Upon hearing this, Maria breathed a sigh of relief and went back to cooking
Maja then picked up the gift box and opened it to find a bracelet, a very delicate gemstone bracelet
Knowing it was a gift from Holden, she was certain it must’ve cost a pretty penny
Out of courtesy, Maja whipped out her phone and quickly gave Holden a ring
As soon as the call connected, Holden’s coughing could be heard from the other end.
“Maja, how’s your dad’s health?” Holden asked.
Maja felt a pang of guilt, as she had previously lied to Holden about wanting to have a baby, while in reality, she already had an agreement with Jan.
“My dad’s much better, thanks for the gift, grandpa,” she replied.
“Did lan visit your dad like I asked him to?”
Maja knew that Holden was testing her, trying to see if lan was obedient.
“Yes, he did He’s doing great, you don’t need to worry.”
Hearing this, Holden’s eyes lit up with amusement, a smile curling up at the corners of his mouth.
“Maja, if you like the bracelet, put it on tonight. I plan to introduce you to some people, and after that, no one will dare mess with you.”
Touched, her eyes welled up with tears, “Okay.”
“Maja, take care of yourself and lan. I’m really looking forward to holding your baby.”
“M–me and Mr. Raymond…” Maja instinctively began to say Mr. Raymond’s name, but thinking better of it added, “We’re working on it. I had some health issues when I was young, so it might take some
time.”
“No worries, take your time, as long as you’re trying,” Holden comforted her.
Maja thanked Holden once more before hanging up.
Looking at the bracelet on her wrist, she felt an immense pressure.
She rubbed her temples, went downstairs to pick up the evening gown she planned to wear.
It was a starfy gown, with a few diamonds adorning the skirt, clearly a high–end piece.
Maja tried it on and it fit her perfectly.
Thinking that there was still a good few hours before the evening party, she decided to put her makeup on later and set the gown aside.
She headed downstairs, “Ms. Maria, is Coco still locked in the back room?”
“Yes, with Mr. Raymond around these past few days, I didn’t dare let him out. Luckily, the room is soundproof, otherwise his barking would’ve kept us up all night.”
Maja then went to the back room to free Coco. As soon as she approached the room, she could hear Coco’s pitiful whining.
Her heart ached at the sound, and she decided to move out of Rosewood Manor as soon as her bank transfer came through. She couldn’t stand having lan inconvenience Coco.
As soon as Coco caught her scent, he became extremely excited, barking and jumping around, his tail wagging furiously.
The moment Maja opened the door, a gust of wind hit her face.
Worried about leaving dog hair around the villa, she decided to take Coco out for a walk.
She said goodbye to Maria and started on her walk with Coco.
Coco was extremely lively. Maja had to walk briskly just to keep up with him.
She didn’t chastise him, thinking he might have been upset these past few days.
After walking a few hundred meters, Coco suddenly barked and bolted forward.
Unable to hold onto the leash, her hand was in pain..
“Coco” she scolded, only to see Connie painting ahead.
