Chapter 157 

The first time Maja laid eyes on Maureen, she knew she was a classy lady, always speaking with kindness and respect. 

Ryan described his mom as a fiendish mom, but Maja was actually pretty jealous of him. Apart from her own mom, Maureen was the most elegant woman she had ever met. 

After everything she’s been through, plus being all alone in the hospital for so long, her defenses were pretty much shot. 

Last night was cold and wet, and her cheek ached, her body feeling all funky due to the side effects of the meds. 

She dreamt of her mom. 

But the dream was short–lived, her mom had been gone for years, and she’d long forgotten what her warmth felt like. 

Maureen was like the embodiment of gentleness. 

“Penny?” Maureen saw her spacing out, thinking she was upset. 

“Every family has hidden difficulties.. If you don’t want me to meet your parents, I won’t. Remember what I told you last time? When you encounter problems, reach out to Ryan. He’s your boyfriend. He’ll help you out.” 

The nicer Maureen was, the guiltier Maja felt.” 

“Ms. Raymond, I get it. I’ll remember.” 

She was itching to get out of there. 

Maureen saw her discomfort and thought it was her ego at work. After all, it must’ve been pretty embarrassing to be seen in such a state by your boyfriend’s mom, not once but twice. She was such a self–reliant person, she won’t tell Ryan about this kind of thing, and she might feel embarrassed now. All Maureen did was smile. 

“You have my number. My attitude towards you remains the same.” 

Maja awkwardly nodded, finally walked to the door of the hospital, where she could finally relax a bit. 

After getting in her car, she drove to Rosewood Manor. 

She knew lan would be at the company, so she wouldn’t run into him back home. 

But she was so tired of hiding, wishing the money from the bank would come through soon. 

Walking into the living room, Maria saw the handprint on her cheek and was startled. 

“Ms. Pennyfeather, you…“. 

Maria rushed to get an ice bag to apply to her face. 

Maja was really shaken up by the events of last night, she thought her life was falling apart. 

That panicky feeling lingered in her chest until she got back to Rosewood Manor and saw Maria’s face, that’s when she felt a bit 

relieved.

“Maria, I’m good. I just want to rest for a bit.” 

Maria didn’t say anything else, just watched her go upstairs. 

Maria was really worried, wondering if Maja had been wronged or had a fight with Mr. Raymond? 

But although Mr. Raymond was cold, he didn’t look like someone who would do anything to women. Maria was at a loss, all she could do was to subtly mention Maja’s condition when calling Holden. 

Upon hearing this, Holden was really concerned. 

So that afternoon, a bunch of high–quality ingredients and gifts were sent to Rosewood Manor, just to cheer Maja up. 

But Maja was oblivious to all this, she was still resting in her room. 

She’d been up all night and only woke up in the afternoon, and started worrying about the renovation of lan’s house again.
