Neil’s face turned as white as a ghost. He put down the file he was looking at and turned to see someone standing not far away. 

He tried to pick up the cane next to him to stand, but his hand was shaking so much he couldn’t muster the strength. 

Maja didn’t move. She was at a loss for words, seeing the man who not long ago could walk now struggling to even use a cane. 

Neil just looked at her, then slowly sat down, setting the cane down next to him in disappointment. 

His face suddenly filled with wrinkles. He looked much older than his actual age of fifty–something, especially with his head full of white hair. It was too much for Maja to bear 

“Maja, the Pennyfeathers are done for, Neil said, his shoulders trembling slightly, 

I’m sorry, I have nothing left to leave you.” 

He had sold all of the Pennyfeather family’s companies and properties just to pay off the debts. He really had nothing left to give Maja. 

Maja walked over and sat down next to Coco, who was still lying at Neil’s feet. 

Neil, hands shaking, set the file on the table. 

“All that hard work, all that effort, and this is where it got us.” 

“Dad, Maja said, lowering her gaze. 

“You should go visit my mom’s grave sometime. You haven’t been there in years.” 

Neil froze, his face twisted in pain. 

“I’ll go tomorrow.” 

But considering Neil’s current health condition, if he took a few hours‘ drive, he might not be able to come back. 

Maja thought about how he only had a year left and was now stressed about the company’s problems. It made her very uncomfortable. 

“The Pennyfeathers are going bankrupt, Maja. You can’t think about leaving lan anymore. Otherwise, you’ll have nothing left. Holden likes you. As long as you’re willing, no one will kick you out. I’m worried you’ll be bullied.” 

He had a feeling he wouldn’t be around for much longer. 

Maja’s eyes turned red, not wanting to discuss the topic. 

“I’ve already had the servants clean up the poison. Cristina’s things have been donated. I’ll take care of the company’s problems.” 

Neil’s fingertips trembled. “Are you going to ask Holden for help? That’s a billion dollars. Even if he likes you, he won’t be able to afford it. Don’t be silly, it will only lower your image in his eyes.” 

After saying this, he suddenly started coughing violently, then coughed up a mouthful of blood due to the stress. 

Maja was startled and quickly handed him a tissue. 

“Not Holden. It’s…it’s lan. He promised me he would help,” she said, wiping the blood from Neil’s mouth. “You don’t need to worry about the company.” 

“Ian doesn’t like you. How could he possibly help you? If he cared about you, he wouldn’t have let the Pennyfeathers fall into such a predicament…” 

He was the one who had exacerbated the Pennyfeathers‘ situation. 

Neil finally caught his breath, then leaned back on the couch, his eyes bleak. 

“lan is a heartless man, Maja. You can rely on him, but you must never fall in love with him. Now I finally see everything clearly.” 

Those who can dictate the lives of others are hard to move. 

“Dad, I think I should take you back to the hospital. It won’t be long before ByteWise Technologies‘ issue will be resolved.” 

Neil looked skeptical, but he had no say in the matter. 

From the moment she walked in the door to now, Maja had maintained a cool demeanor. 

Neil knew it was his fault that their relationship had come to this. 

The little girl who used to cry and call for her mother had grown up without his realizing it, and she no longer depended on him. 

Maja had the driver take Neil back to the hospital. Given his condition, he simply couldn’t go on any longer. 

But not half an hour later, the driver called. 

“Ms. Pennyfeather, ByteWise Technologies sent people to the hospital to cause trouble, and Mr. Pennyfeather… he has been rushed to the emergency room again. Maja ignored it and called lan instead. 

He picked up, but then hung up. 

She had no other choice. If she didn’t resolve the issue with ByteWise Technologies, her father’s life would be in danger, and ByteWise Technologies 

would continue to harass them. In a few days, the Pennyfeather Group would belong to ByteWise Technologies. 

Only lan could help her, even if…it meant sacrificing her dignity. 

But at least, lan could afford the cost.
