Now, Holden Raymond realized he’d been with another woman, but only made him kneel overnight.

Inside the Shepard family mansion. 

Carlene Shepard had been fuming all night. 

When someone is utterly livid, they can hardly utter a word. She felt like her throat had gone hoarse. 

Tess had been anxiously knocking on the door from outside, trying to soothe hér. 

“Carlene, we can talk through whatever it is.” 

Carlene’s lips had turned pale, tears streaming down her face. 

She felt utterly humiliated, more so than any other time in her life, especially after finding out that Maja was Penny. 

She thought she had the upper hand, but in reality, she had been played like a fiddle. 

She cried all night, her eyes swollen from the tears, and she shook uncontrollably at the thought of it all. 

Tess had the butler bring the spare key and opened the door. 

“You haven’t talked to Edith in the past few days. She’s the one who supports you the most, you can’t slack off.” 

The entire Shepard family was banking on her marrying into the Raymond family. 

Carlene’s eyes were red and swollen; she croaked out, “There’s no chance.” She had no chance left. 

lan would soon find out. 

Tess frowned, cupping her face gently. 

“Carlene, calm down, no matter what lan thinks right now, there’s still a chance, as long as you dare to take risks, hasn’t lan been pursuing you all along?” 

Take risks? At this point, Carlene was ready to go down in flames. 

Even if it meant going down, she was taking Maja with her. 

That disgusting person had fooled her like she was an idiot! 

“Carlene…”

Tess pulled her up, “That’s more like it, when I was trying to marry your father, I had to endure a lot, so I’ve always told you not to act impulsively, there’s always a

She thought: she could still use Eric. 

Carlene immediately went to the beauty salon to reduce the swelling in her face, then made herself up beautifully, and then went to have tea with Edith.

Maja and lan were in the same car, heading to a neighboring city for an auction. 

They could have taken the high–speed rail for a faster ride, but lan insisted on having Jeff drive. 

The partition in the car was down, and Maja was carefully studying the information on the auction items. 

lan was watching her and then asked. 

“The last time I was in your kitchen, it seemed like no one cooks there regularly, your husband isn’t home often, is he?” 

Maja’s finger paused on the document, basically admitting it. 

“Penny, you’ve known about his affair for a long time, haven’t you?” 

“Mr. Raymond, every family has its own hardships.” 

Just as she finished speaking, the car suddenly jolted violently. 

Maja furrowed her brows and looked outside. 

The car door opened, and Jeff’s voice came through. 

“There are four cars chasing us from behind, Mr. Raymond, Ms. Penny, you guys better buckle up.” 

With that, he floored the gas pedal. 

lan gripped the handle tightly, pulling Maja into his arms. 

All Maja could see was the floor of the car, and the sound of guns being assembled filled her ears.
