Nathan was just standing nearby, he knew what was going on in lan’s mind, so he kept his mouth shut, just standing quietly on the side. 

lan just finished a cookie all chill–like, then instructed Maja to give Nathan some tasks. 

“Got any coffee?” 

“Yeah, I’ll whip it up right away.” 

Maja nodded and tossed the cookie wrapper into a nearby bin. 

lan watched her, feeling super comfy, finding her more and more likable. 

A few minutes later, lan pulled her in and gave her lips a peck. 

“Penny, you are natural at being a secretary.” 

Before he could finish his sentence, the sound of a cup crashing came from the door. 

Maja quickly pushed lan away, seeing Nathan standing at the door, his hands covered in coffee, the cup shattered on the floor, obviously startled by their antics. 

He quickly picked up the shards, apologized hastily, and went off to prepare a fresh cup of coffee. 

Maja frowned, starting to suspect that lan did that on purpose. 

But what could have been his motive? 

She turned her head to look at lan, but lan was already engrossed in some paperwork as if he had no idea Nathan would show up. 

The meeting with Judson went smoothly, with extra hands on deck, the Greenfield Gardens project was expected to be finished in a fortnight. 

“Penny, we’ll need you to do the formaldehyde testing on–site, because you handpicked all the materials. Even though we used the best stuff, we still need to run a full test.” 

Maja nodded, stood up and shook hands with Judson. 

Judson glanced at Maja, then at lan, his gaze full of meaning. 

Back at the Raymond Corporation, Carlene was waiting at the office entrance. 

“Jan.” 

Carlene looked worn out, the money that she borrowed from Edith was not enough, she felt that Edith still wanted her to marry lan. 

Maja quickly retreated into the lift, even lan didn’t have time to stop her. 

He turned his head to look at the waiting Carlene, his expression calm. 

“What’s up?” 

“lan, l,” 

Before Carlene could finish that sentence, she started sobbing. 

lan watched Carlene, his gaze growing colder. 

“Carlene, have I been spoiling you too much?” 

Carlene froze, her lips quivered, and she kept silent.

“Stop coming to me, the Shepard family has gotten enough from the Raymond Corporation. I can’t stand greedy people.” 

Carlene finally broke down, she grabbed lan’s hand and said, “Don’t you like me at all?” 

lan dodged Carlene’s hand; he suddenly found her very irritating. 

He used to think that since she was the woman Eric liked, he should show her some respect. But he never thought she would be shamelessly persistent. 

This time Carlene came to him hoping that lan could help the EverBest Group.
