The hospital called with the test results the next morning. 

The blood test confirmed that Carlene and Neil were father and daughter. 

The news hit Maja like a ton of bricks. 

She sat on the sofa, momentarily forgetting how to react. 

Her breakfast on the table had gone cold. Despite the underfloor heating in the room, Maja felt a chill run through her body. 

Lillian was the person Maja loved most in this world. 

Lillian gave her endless love and created a world full of love for her, no longer making her complain about her childhood environment. When Maja first found out she wasn’t Lillian’s biological daughter, she was devastated, because she genuinely loved Lillian. 

Maja often sighed that she must have done a lot of good deeds in her past life to have a mom like Lillian.

Holden had decided to send Carlene to jail. 

But as Lillian and Neil’s adopted daughter, Maja couldn’t just sit back and watch Carlene go to prison. 

Maja felt incredibly irritated, a feeling she had never experienced before. 

She quickly called Holden. After a moment of silence, he asked, “What are you going to do?” 

Maja didn’t know what to do. 

Her mind went blank. On one hand, there were Lillian and Neil, on the other, what Carlene had done to her. 

Holden said, “I’ll have someone send Carlene abroad. She will only bring you trouble if she stays in Greenfield.” 

After a while, Maja nodded in agreement, “Thanks, Grandpa Holden.” 

But soon, word came from Carlene’s side that she wanted to talk to Maja. 

Carlene wasn’t stupid. She knew she had a paternity test and now Holden was willing to let her go. Something must have happened in between. 

She immediately thought of Maja. 

Maja didn’t want to go to the police station, but Carlene sent her a letter through someone else. 

“You’re living off my parents‘ company, you were raised by my parents, your life is theirs. If you don’t come to see me, I will kill myself and tell them it’s because of you.” 

With no other choice, Maja had to go and meet Carlene. 

Carlene was still in the police station, but now she had a triumphant look on her face as she looked at Maja. 

“Who would’ve thought, Maja, or should I call you sister?” 

Maja felt sick. 

But the more Maja showed her displeasure, the happier Carlene was.
