Chapter 90
“Hey, Mr. Raymond, once we’ve locked in the design, I’ve got to start on the construction drawings. You sure you don’t want anyone else to take a peek? I heard from Mr. Elston that this house is designed for your sweetheart Don’t you think you should ask her opinion?”
lan fell silent for a moment before whispering, “No need.”
Maja was taken aback and began to wonder. Had lan really been waiting for Carlene Shepard for all these years, just like the rumors suggested?
The gossip might not be baseless, maybe there was trouble in paradise
Maja didn’t much care about all that “Alright, I’ll call you if I need anything else.”
Just as she hung up and prepared to rest, there was a knock at the door. It was Maria.
“Ms Pennyfeather, Holden called me at noon. He said his flight lands at six tomorrow evening and asked you and Mr. Raymond to pick him up.” Maja’s heart raced. Was she really going with lan?
She even thought about making up an excuse not to go.
But it was Holden, who had always shown concern for her and treated her like family over the years.
She took a deep breath, “Got it.”
He must have called home because his car was in a tunnel and there was no signal at noon. He was probably on the plane by now.
She would have to see lan sooner or later; she just had to be prepared.-
The next morning, as she descended the stairs after washing up, she noticed the living room was unusually quiet.
She looked up and saw Selena sitting on the couch with a cup of tea in front of her; apparently, she had been there for a while.
Maja had just returned from Crystalbrook Valley the previous day and had planned to sleep in a bit, but instead, she ran into Selena. Selena scoffed upon seeing Maja up and about.
Tan’s already been in three meetings by this time and you’re still lazing in bed: What terrible manners!”
Maja found it amusing. Selena was always displeased with her and was always finding faults with her.
Now that Holden was returning, she was worried lan might move into Rosewood Manor with Maja, so she came early to pick a fight.
Tve had lan’s clothes sent over; they’re in the bedroom. You’re lucky that you were smart enough to move out.”
Maja chuckled and signaled for Maria to go about her business; otherwise, she’d be on the receiving end of Selena’s scolding too. Maria sighed and picked up a towel to clean the table and chairs.
Coco had just returned from playing outside, and since it was raining, he stood at the entrance waiting for someone to wipe his paws. Selena spotted Coco immediately and her eyes narrowed.
“Didn’t I tell you to get rid of this dog?“,
“Ms. Casson, Mr. Raymond hasn’t arrived yet. When he does, Coco will be gone.”
That won’t do! lan gets uncomfortable around dogs!”
Maja took a deep breath, maintaining a polite smile on her face.
“Alright, I’ll have someone take Coco away. But, Ms. Casson, did you come over this morning to discuss anything else?”
A hint of seriousness spread across Selena’s face. I didn’t just come by myself. I invited your parents too; they should be here soon.”
Maja frowned. Neil and Cristina?
It seemed she was not just scolding her but also wanted to reprimand the Pennyfeather family.
She suddenly felt uneasy.
But she didn’t like lan and never thought of continuing this marriage.
It was all just business; she was well aware of this fact.
