Maja suddenly froze in her tracks, like she’d been hit with a freeze spell or something. 

lan’s eyes lit up instantly, ready to make a dash for her, but her soft voice cut through, “Congrats.” 

His eager steps came to a halt. He smirked, “Oh.” 

It wasn’t until Maja was out of sight that he finally moved his numb legs. 

He’d been standing too long. His legs were numb, even aching. 

He had planned to investigate Daflene, but now it didn’t seem to matter. 

Marrying anyone would do. 

When he got back to the Greenfield Gardens hall, Tyler and Darlene were still there. 

Darlene felt a sense of relief seeing him back. “Mr. Raymond.” 

lan didn’t respond. She wanted to approach him, but fyler held her back. 

Tyler had been juggling women all his life, he knew exactly what was going on in Darlene’s mind. She thought lan had given up on Maja and was coming 

back for her. 

But judging from lan’s expression, he was clearly in a state of confusion. 

Approaching him now would surely lead to a disaster. 

Ignoring them, lan went straight upstairs. 

Darlene was scared. She was indeed pregnant, but the baby definitely wasn’t lan’s.

Watching lan go upstairs, Tyler took a sip of water from the table. 

“If that baby in your belly isn’t lan’s, a quick investigation would reveal it.” 

Darlene froze, her face turning pale and her heart pounding. Tyler, I don’t understand what you’re saying.” 

Tyler raised an eyebrow, looking her up and down. “Do you know why I chose you that day?”

Darlene was sweating buckets, wasn’t it just because she was lucky? 

“It’s because you do resemble Maja a bit and because you’re naive and transparent. But today, you seem a bit smarter.” 

Darlene’s lips turned white with fear. She dropped to her knees in an instant, unable to stand up straight. 

She felt like Tyler saw through her intentions. 

Tyler said nothing, and he just looked at the water in his cup. 

He was different from lan. Ian hadn’t dealt with many women, but Tyler had been in the game for years. 

He knew the ins and outs of relationships. It’s just that sometimes they can’t see the forest for the trees. 

And judging by the current situation, it seemed like lan had given up, not planning to investigate? 

In that case, Darlene might actually have a chance. 

And lan wouldn’t have to worry about Maja anymore. 

A fake relationship seemed more reliable than one that had been through ups and downs and still left scars. 

“Tyler, I’m sorry, I was wrong.” 

Darlene was filled with regret. She thought her scheme was foolproof, but the man before her was terrifying. 

“Stand up. I’m not blaming you.” 

But Darlene didn’t dare to stand. She stayed on her knees, wishing she could hit her head on the floor until it bled, praying that Tyler would really let her go. She knew she couldn’t fight these people. 

Tyler stood up, smiling, “Go home. Whether you can fool lan or not, that’s up to you. As long as it’s about Maja, lan will lose his mind. Use that to your advantage.” 

A glimmer of hope sparked in Darlene’s eyes, and she repeatedly kowtowed, “I understand, I will keep trying.” 

Tyler didn’t respond, he just watched her leave Greenfield Gardens excitedly. It seemed like she really got the message. 

He wanted to light a cigarette, but was reminded of something and went upstairs. 

lan wasn’t in the study. He pushed open the door to the master bedroom, but lan wasn’t there either. 

On the balcony of the second–floor corridor, lan was holding a nearly burnt–out cigarette. The cigarette butt was about to burn his fingers, but he seemed 

oblivious. 

As Tyler opened the balcony door to approach, lan stubbed out the cigarette butt in the ashtray and snapped coldly, “Get lost.” 

He raised his hands in surrender. 

“Alright, alright, my bad. I shouldn’t have brought that woman over that night.” 

lan didn’t respond.

Tyler lit a cigarette, sounding indifferent. “lan, Fitch leaked some info recently and said that Eric might have accepted that dangerous mission because of a woman? See, even a guy like Eric could die for a woman.” 

lan didn’t respond, knowing this would remind Tyler of his own heartbreak. 

Tyler never turned down women. But when he was twenty, he slept with a woman who happened to be his younger brother’s girlfriend, and his brother walked in on them. 

Tyler didn’t know they were together at the time, and he just thought the woman was trying to use him for his resources. 

His brother ran away from home and never came back after that incident.
