The following morning, Ian's plane touched down in Greenfield.

He didn’t request anyone to pick him up, nor did he accompany Fitch. Instead, he made a call to Maja.

"I’m at the airport. Can you come and pick me up?"

His question seemed polite, but his tone was subtly urging her to hurry.

However, Maja wasn’t the one who answered. She was in a meeting and had left her phone with Zoey.

Zoey, irritated by his presumptuous tone, coolly replied,

"Mr. Raymond, Ms. Pennyfeather is in a meeting, and it will go on until noon."

Ian's brow furrowed in disappointment, but he didn’t say anything further.

He asked Jeff to pick him up instead, but halfway through, Tyler called him to discuss a rumor circulating in their circle.

"What rumor?"

"It's about Maja. They say she's been seeing her first love."

Ian's body stiffened, his eyes darkening, "Who said that?"

"No idea, it's all over the place. While you were abroad these past couple of days, Maja has been staying in a hotel, not returning to Rosewood Manor or the office. Rumor has it that she's meeting her first love."

Ian's grip on his phone tightened, "Who's spreading these lies?"

"Ian, how do you know it's a lie? Alma provided the hotel records, and I called the hotel myself. She was indeed there for two days. Everyone knows her company is really busy right now, dealing with Funfly Darcy. How would she have the time to just hang out at a hotel?"

Ian's tone turned cold, warning Tyler.

"Don't trust Alma."

"Ian, whether you trust Alma or not, why not ask Maja yourself?"

After ending the call, Ian rubbed his forehead.

He hadn’t slept in two nights and hadn't had the time to adjust to the time difference. He looked exhausted.

"Jeff, drive me to Maja's office."

Jeff glanced at him through the rearview mirror and nodded slowly.

Ian arrived at the top floor of Star Movie group and walked into Maja's office without a word.

The people on the top floor whispered amongst themselves, but no one dared to make their curiosity too obvious.

Maja froze, not daring to move, fearing he would get angry and storm out the next moment.

Just as they were starting to open their hearts to each other, she had gathered enough courage to take the next step. She couldn’t bear to be abandoned.

Just like when Lillian said she was just going to sleep and never woke up again.

She couldn’t bear the departure of the people she cared about; now Ian had become one of them.

Maja lowered her head, not saying a word.

Ian stood up, moved from behind the sofa to face her, and tightly embraced her, lying down beside her.

"What's wrong? Too tired from work? Not happy?"

"No, I'm just really happy to see you."

A smile tugged at Ian's lips as he held her even closer, and they lay down on the spacious sofa.

"Maja, I never realized you were so sweet."

Maja didn’t say anything, her mind filled with concerns. Had he seen the marks? Why was he so quiet?
