"No."

She promptly settled into the seat.

Ian, pulling her into his arms, felt the fabric of his suit rub against her clothes.

His slender fingers trailed down her back, finally resting at her waist, gently applying pressure.

Maja felt sore all over, having forced herself to work all afternoon. And at that moment being massaged, she squinted with comfort.

Subsequently, she dozed off in Ian's arms, even managing to find a comfortable position for herself.

After the car came to a halt at Rosewood Manor, Ian carried her out.

Jeff, the driver, tactfully drove off, intending to return the following morning to pick them up.

Ian carried her straight to the master bedroom upstairs, first placing her on the nearby couch before drawing a bath. He stripped her clean and put her in the tub.

Maja slept through it all.

It wasn't until after a thorough massage of her sore spots that she mumbled a few words.

Ian glanced at her, picked up a towel to dry her off, and lifted her onto the bed.

Then he took a shower himself.

Maja was still fast asleep, half her face buried in the covers, a flush of deep sleep coloring her cheeks.

He pulled her into his arms, ready to sleep, when his phone rang.

He quickly got out of bed and answered the call,

"What's up?"

"Sir, we've investigated all the men named Patric within Ms. Pennyfeather's range. Her lifestyle has always been quite simple, centered around the county and Greenfield, rarely going out of town. Among all the Patrics nationwide, none have ever appeared in the same frame as Ms. Pennyfeather."

"What about the small town Maja went to without me?"

"No traces of others were found in the inn there, including Greenfield hotels. It appears that a sophisticated hacker has wiped clean all surveillance. Our investigation indicates that this Patric could be a pseudonym."

Ian's brow furrowed, his hand resting on the balcony rail tightening into a fist. A wave of unspeakable anger surged within him.

A pseudonym?

Was Maja being deceived?

"Keep investigating! Include the men who have been in contact with her in Crystalbrook Valley. If Patric is really a pseudonym, find his real name as soon as possible."

He had always portrayed a strong and calm demeanor in front of Maja, fearing that if he showed too much concern about that topic, she might think it was her problem.

"Ian, I forgot to ask if you've had dinner."

Seeing her state, he knew that she probably hadn't fully woken up yet. He scooped her up and carried her back to bed.

Three seconds after Maja lay on the bed, she fell asleep again as she was still tired.

He cradled her in his arms, his burning anger instantly extinguished.

Meanwhile.

Alma had failed twice and was furious. She had planned to cause a rift between Ian and Maja with her rumors, but lately, everyone was just fascinated by how great their relationship was.

She was seething, her fists clenched so tightly that her nails almost pierced her palms.

She could tolerate everyone being happy, except for that bitch Maja!

She called Funfly, seeking advice.

Funfly was also at her wit's end. Seeing Ian and Maja's relationship grow stronger, she feared that if Judith got angry, she might end up in jail.

"Target someone close to her. Isn't Cornelia hidden away by her now? Go after Zoey. She's just an ordinary person. You can harm her without anyone bothering you, and it will definitely upset Maja."

If it was something that would upset Maja, Alma was eager to do it at all costs.
