Patric and a few members of the Morris clan were at the Raymond Corporation, waiting for Ian, but two hours passed, and Ian was nowhere to be seen.
The executives were getting impatient, but no matter who tried to contact Ian, there was no response.
Finally, Patric stood up, chuckling at those around him.
"Ian's still as stubborn as a mule, standing us up like this."
The executives couldn't express any dissatisfaction. After all, the Raymond Corporation had already been purged once, and those who remained were fiercely loyal to Ian. They wouldn't be swayed by a few provocative words from Patric.
Patric turned to the disgruntled members of the Morris clan.
"It seems we are out of luck, folks. It's likely that this was just an impromptu game proposed by Ian. Let's head home. We're not seeing him tonight."
The Morris family was already upset, and now they had been stood up.
Edith slapped the table, cursing loudly.
"Eric, it should've been you who became the president of the Raymond Corporation. Rest assured, we will always support you."
With Edith taking the lead, the others also voiced their support.
They couldn't wait to snatch the shares from Ian, but they belonged to him personally and weren't easily taken.
Patric merely chuckled, instructing his driver to take the members of the Morris clan home.
It was already ten in the evening, and everyone was exhausted from the ordeal.
Patric's smile faded as he returned to his mansion.
Ian received a call from Fitch.
Half an hour ago, he had asked Fitch to investigate the force behind Eric, and found out that most of Eric's power was in North America. Many of the recent illegal immigrants were Eric's people.
In other words, Eric was now under surveillance, and as long as he was in Greenfield, he couldn't mobilize his force.
So the guards in this mansion were hastily assembled and nowhere near as professional as the ones at Greenfield Gardens. This was why Ian could easily infiltrate.
Understanding the situation behind Eric, Ian came up with a plan.
Fitch cautioned him repeatedly.
"Don't do anything reckless. Everyone in Greenfield is on edge, guessing which company you're going to acquire next. If someone organizes a retaliation, your situation will be difficult."
Ian chuckled and hung up.
He stood in a blind spot of the surveillance, listening to the sound of a car engine outside. Patric was back.
Seeing her like this, Ian felt even worse. He held her tighter, his lips pursed.
"I will make things right for you."
His throat hurt, and he felt as if something was stuck there.
Maja didn't say anything, leaning down to kiss his nose. She felt incredibly sweet.
She couldn't explain her feelings for Ian. It was probably far beyond mere liking.
She hoped that he would always be the high-profile figure he was, not losing everything he'd worked so hard for in Greenfield because of her.
She understood what the Raymond Corporation meant to him. If he really gave it up, deep down, he would feel inferior to Eric.
Some people spend their whole lives being healed by their childhood, while others spend their lives healing from it.
The Raymond Corporation was what healed Ian's childhood. Even if she was blind and mute, Maja couldn't let him lose it.
They fell asleep in each other's arms.
Meanwhile, in the other room down the hall, Patric couldn't believe that Ian had the audacity to show up in his mansion, sleeping next to Maja.
