At four in the morning in Greenfield, everything was quiet as a whisper.
A man held a tiny earpiece between his fingers, a tool used solely to listen to Maja's voice from across the distance. But he'd lost contact with her two days ago.
How foolish. It seemed Ian's words had swayed her once again.
With a sigh, he put down the earpiece. A soft voice queried from his side.
"Mr. K, what should we do now?"
Were they just going to let Ms. Pennyfeather stay with Patric?
He didn't respond right away, his eyes narrowing slightly.
The room became silent, as if his aura demanded it.
After a long pause, he tossed the earpiece into a nearby trash bin.
"Tell Patric that Ian is most likely hiding in his mansion."
With that, he leaned back and closed his eyes.
"Also, send someone to inform Maja. If she doesn't care about Lillian's fate, then she can continue to entangle herself with Ian. I'll be leaving on the evening of the 5th next month. She can decide whether to cooperate with me or not."
"Understood, sir."
His bodyguard looked at him with some admiration. After all, he was currently the most powerful man, managing the entirety of BK with ease.
The bodyguard soon left.
Half an hour later, Patric received the news.
"You think Ian's hiding here?"
A smile played on his lips as his gaze swept over the silent bodyguards around him. No one spoke.
Patric's smile faded.
"I see. I'll find him."
As Maja was resting in her room, she heard a soft knock on her window. It was a message from Mr. K, asking if she truly didn't care about Lillian's fate.
How could Maja not care?
Her eyelashes fluttered as she heard her bedroom door open.
Patric entered without a word and went straight into the bathroom.
There were only Maja's toiletries in the bathroom, but when he opened the medicine cabinet behind the mirror, he found a set of men's toiletries.
What a clever hiding place!
His eyes flashed dangerously as he returned to the bed and found a short strand of men's hair on the pillow.
"Maja!"
Furious, he strode to her side.
"Do you have a death wish? You dare to hide a man in my house?"
His grip on her chin tightened, and she winced.
He took a deep breath, his chest heaving.
Patric didn't move, but pressed his head against the gun's barrel instead.
"Do you dare to shoot me, Ian?"
Before he could finish, Ian kicked him in the waist.
"Eric, I don't want to kill you, but crippling you would be easy. Your network is all in North America. Because of the chip, the higher-ups have been watching you. I advise you to be careful."
Ian handcuffed Patric.
"Maja said she gave you the chip. How could you forget where it is? Or should I help jog your memory? Or where should I shoot to make you tell Grandpa Bernard and his gang that the chip is with you?"
Maja couldn't see, but she clung to Ian's shirt.
Ian placed Patric on the bed and tied his legs with a torn piece of cloth.
He pulled out his phone and dialed Bernard's number.
Once Bernard answered, he put the phone in front of Patric.
"Tell Grandpa Bernard that you have the chip. Or else."
His gun instinctively moved to his most precious, most vulnerable spot.
No man wasn't afraid of that.
Patric's chest tightened as he spoke into the phone. "I'll come with the chip tomorrow morning."
His eyes were fixed on Ian as he spoke.
