But Ryan had to do what Maureen said. 

Ryan was thinking about how to keep Rita from bumping into them tomorrow. Due to Rita’s poor family conditions, she has been cautious when she was with him, and she was very sensitive and vulnerable. If anything was said wrong, she might feel upset. 

Ryan racked his brains but couldn’t come up with any good solutions. 

In a blink of an eye, it was the next day. 

When Maja woke up on the sofa, she was no longer running a fever, but her throat was still a bit sore. 

She got up and made herself a cup of water. Thinking about last night, she couldn’t help touch her forehead, wondering if her luck was going down the drain this year. 

Then she thought of Maureen. She hadn’t had time to visit her last night, she needed to visit her today. 

But just as she picked up her cup, the doorbell rang. It was Rita. 

Rita had brought breakfast, and when she saw that Maja looked a bit better, she let out a sigh of relief. 

“You had a fever last night. I made some oatmeal porridge for you this morning, you can drink some.” 

As Rita said this, she glanced around. 

Last night, she had told Mr. Raymond that Penny’s husband was always out early and back late, but she had never actually seen Penny’s husband. 

“Penny, is your husband super busy? You were so sick last night, and he didn’t even come to take care of you.” 

Maja knew she had to sort out the husband issue as soon as possible at least find a man to appear in front of these people, she. –couldn’t let them keep asking, or her cover would be blown. 

Carol Miller should have a way out, she had a lot of friends, she must know some reliable people. 

“He often has to travel for work.” 

Rita didn’t say much, just told her to eat the porridge. 

Maja expressed her gratitude, just as she was about to eat the porridge, she heard Rita’s phone ring and from the way she was talking, she knew the call was from Ryan. 

Ryan told Rita he had a surprise for her and asked her to head out now. 

But Rita, who was called back by Ryan last night, was miffed. But when she heard there was a surprise, she went out happily. 

As soon as Rita left, Maja was about to clean up the dishes to return them to her, but the doorbell rang again. 

Thinking it was Rita, she immediately went to open the door. 

But when she saw Ryan and Maureen standing outside, she was a bit nervous and didn’t know what to say. 

Maureen seemed better, and seeing Maja’s pale face, she reached out and held her hand with concern. 

“Penny, were you scared by what happened yesterday? Ryan is clueless, he doesn’t know how to comfort people, so I brought him- to see you.” 

Maja looked at Ryan, and Ryan signaled her with his eyes to calm down. 

Maja was totally clueless about what Ryan was doing. Ryan knew she was married, wasn’t he afraid he would bump into her husband when he came to see her? 

Ryan was taking a risk. Luckily, Maja’s husband wasn’t–home. 

He could only do as Maureen said. He had once taken Maja to meet Maureen, but in such a short time, he had a new girlfriend. He was worried Maureen would send him back to the Raymond Corporation again. 

Ryan was able to break away from the Raymond Corporation because of Maja, and he absolutely didn’t want to be sent back. 

So he had to keep playing along, waiting for the right opportunity to come clean to his mother. 

Though Maureen was from a wealthy family, she was not arrogant. She treated Maja like a familiar friend, 

She was very pleased with Maja. Plus, knowing that Maja wasn’t welcomed at her home, she felt sorry for her even more. 

She held Maja’s hand, then held Ryan’s hand, and gave them both a satisfying pat. 

“Ryan, you must treat Penny well. Your mind is still immature and need someone to help you grow.” 

Before she could finish her sentence, the elevator door had already opened. But all three of them were lost in their own thoughts and didn’t notice who was in the elevator. 

When they heard the elevator door close, they looked up and saw a stunned Rita.
