Chapter 523 

Maja scowled, feeling really ticked off. 

What on earth was up with lan? She had never seen him being so bloody shameless before. 

Well, maybe not shameless, just that he had nerves of steel. 

The cutlery in this restaurant had to be taken out of a paper wrap, which contained a disposable fork head. He had to fit this fork head onto a handle before he could use it. He usually saw these types of forks at snack stands, but these forks were a bit more eco–friendly because only the fork head was disposable. 

Both lan and Carlene had no clue how to use them. 

Carlene slammed the fork down on the table with a “thump,” not bothering to hide her distaste. 

Instead, lan looked at the fork next to Maja. 

Since she had injured her hand, she had been using a spoon and a fork. 

He just reached over and grabbed Maja’s fork, starting to use it as if it were the most natural thing in the world. 

Maja’s face darkened further, her chest heaving more violently. 

Nathan, who was sitting across from her, felt incredibly embarrassed. As Maja’s husband in name, how was he supposed to react to lan’s behavior? If he got angry, he wouldn’t dare offend lan. 

If he didn’t get angry, then what was the point of his role as a husband? Keeping quiet seemed too cowardly. 

To ease the tension, Nathan reached for the paper wrap next to Carlene and helped her assemble another fork. 

Carlene scoffed disdainfully, “You don’t need to stick your nose where it doesn’t belong.” 

Knowing that Carlene was lan’s date, Nathan didn’t dare to argue. 

But the next moment, Maja stood up and threw the fork in front of Carlene into the trash can. 

“Well then, just eat with your hands.” 

Carlene hadn’t expected Maja to do that. She was so angry that her face turned ashen, and her lips even started to bleed from biting them so hard. What a nightmare! This was infuriating! 

She glared at Maja, wishing she could slap her right then and there. 

Tears welled up in Carlene’s eyes. She turned to lan and said, “lan, look at her; she threw my cutlery away. How am I supposed to eat now?” Nathan quickly tried to placate Maja, saying, “Penny, let it go; I’m fine. Do you want some shrimp? I’ll peel it for you.” 

In lan’s eyes, Maja was standing up for Nathan. 

lan chuckled and said, “Apologize.” 

Carlene’s eyes lit up at his words. A cold smile spread across her face as she waited for Maja to apologize. 

But Maja only looked away, mimicking Jan’s cold chuckle, “Eat it or leave it.” 

Nathan quickly scooped some soup for Maja and said, “Don’t be mad; have some soup to calm your stomach.” 

Maja really liked the food at this restaurant, and she was quite hungry. So she started to drink the soup silently. 

Carlene sat across from her, feeling like she was about to cry. She felt humiliated here, but leaving would give this disgusting woman an opportunity! 

She gritted her teeth, asked the waiter for another paper wrap, and assembled a fork herself, just like Nathan did earlier. 

As Maja was quietly enjoying her soup, she suddenly felt a hand creeping towards her leg. She paused, turning in surprise to lan. 

Ian still maintained his suave demeanor, his eyes half–closed, looking rather indifferent. But under the table, his hand was slowly reaching for Maja’s thigh. 

The warmth from his palm seemed to seep through the thin fabric, painting her face a deep shade of red.
