ATHENA
SLAP!
I hit him so hard his face pauses on the side from the shock of my delivery!
How dare this scumbag mock me after everything he’s put me through?
The anger I feel right now can't be explained. He blames me. I get it, but this is the last stroll, and I've had enough!
Especially when I look at the baby he's holding, he doesn't look more than five months old and if my math is correct, that means the asshole cheated on me and got us pregnant at the same time!
“How dare you?” I spit, my voice trembling with rage, heartbreak, and months of bottled-up pain. “You cheated, lied, humiliated me, and now you use my son’s name to mock me?”
The room is frozen.
No one speaks.
Even the baby in Leah’s arms starts to whimper at the sudden tension in the air.
Alex slowly straightens, his jaw clenched, cheek reddened from the blow. He looks stunned, like he didn’t expect me to still have fire in me after all he’s done.
“Don’t you ever speak to me like that again,” I snap, my chest heaving. “You don’t get to rewrite history and paint me as the villain, Alex. You don’t get to take my pain and twist it into some sick weapon to hurt me.”
“Athena-” Giana starts, her voice trembling, but I don't even take a breath, I’m not done.
“You can marry whoever you want. You can lie to yourself and the world about whatever twisted version of this you’ve created to make yourself feel better. But don’t you dare stand there and tell me you didn't cheat, that you're perfect husband when you're so full of shit. You know what, fine, call your son whatever you want, I really don't care!”
Alex opens his mouth, but I cut him off, my voice rising with every word from how angry I am. “You want to erase me from your life? Fine. But don’t you dare pretend like that sweet little boy was never my world. Like I didn't want him. Because I loved him more than anything in this world, and I'm the one who felt physical and emotional pain while bringing him into this world!”
From the corner of my eyes, I see Leah fidget with her finger as tears well in her eyes, and the sight is annoying, but I can't even call her out.
Because he was hers first, right?
I’m the intruder!
“I'm really sorry, Athena and everyone. I didn't mean to bring in any confusion and make you fight. I just needed protection for my son, Alex. Maybe you can give him another name, and I don't want to hurt Athena.”
“Athena shouldn't worry you. Focus on the child. Take him upstairs, I'll be with you shortly!” Alex says gently to Leah, who if I didn't know any better looked afraid.
But I've known the bitch for a while and I know the moment we are alone she will mock me right in the face.
Funny how some people can wear masks so damn well.
“But-”
“Go upstairs, Leah.” Alex cuts her off.
She nods, taking the baby and walks away.
I don't look at the child in her arms. I can't because then I'll start questioning life and I don't want that.
His mouth opens, as if he wants to say something but thinks twice and closes his mouth, sealing it shut and hardening his gaze.
I look at him, really look at him, and wonder how I ever loved this… thing. This pathetic excuse for a man.
“You’re not even sorry,” I say, my voice deadly calm now.
“Why should I be? Were you sorry when you drank whatever shit you took and killed my son to be with your lover?
News flash, you were never his mother! You don’t get to use that title just because you pushed him out.”
A gasp tears from his mother. Giana nearly stumbles back like he slapped her instead of me.
Giana’s voice cracks as she speaks again.
“I don’t know how you became this cold. But I can’t stand by and watch it anymore.”
Alex scoffs, looking around like we’re all crazy. “So what? Everyone’s taking Athena’s side now?”
Eli steps forward. “If it weren’t for your mother and grandmother in this room right now-”he stops himself, visibly restraining his fury. “Come with me right now!”
Eli turns And grabs the keys from the table,
“Don't make me say it fucking twice!”
