ALEX

One year six months.

That's how long has passed since I last saw her.

I must say I was taken aback when I bumped into her. I must also confess that I've struggled with myself since that night. When I'm not thinking about my son, it's her occupying my head like a damn virus that won't let me go.

She's in my head, my skin and in my fucking heart and it's damn annoying. When Iann gave me the paternity results that showed I was Rayen's father, I had so much anger I didn't even stop to think I had cheated.

The worst part is I don't even fucking remember doing so. But then I remembered what she did. How she cheated on me. Killed my son just to be with bastard and my anger returned ten folds.

But she ruined my fucking plans when I saw her panick attack return. Seeing her struggle to breathe and lose her balance when the elevator stopped did something to me. I thought she was better. Despite what she fucking did, I've been watching her.

I'll need to kick Lucas's ass for not having found the culprit even after so long. Maybe that's what she needs.

Closure.

But how does it concern you?

A little annoying voice nags me at the back of my head and I push it back.

I equally don't know.

But here I stand as the Elevator opens.

I watch as Rayen rushes to Athena and jumps on her, his small arms wrapping tightly around her neck as he calls out,

“Mummy!”

A frown pulls at my face, my chest heaving with confusion and something darker, something dangerously close to anger.

My fists clench by my sides as I watch her frozen figure, still on the floor of the elevator, now clutching my son as if he belongs to her.

But I don’t pull Rayen back.

Not yet.

Why? one would ask.

I equally don't know why I'm standing here like an idiot instead of preventing him from running towards a stranger. Maybe it's because this Is the first time I've seen him warm up towards someone other than family.

My gaze stays on Athena. She's still as a statue, her eyes wide, lips parted, her hands trembling slightly as they slowly settle on Rayen’s back.

Like she doesn’t know what to do. Like she’s not sure if she should hold him or push him away.

He's pouting as I place him in the baby sitter.

Leah blocks my way and crosses her arms over her chest In anger as she gives me a look that tells me she wants to glare but wouldn't dare.

“What were you doing with her, Alex!” She demands.

“With who?” I clip my tongue. Already feeling pissed off that my mind has never been the same since that night.

Leah scoffs, “That Athena girl!” She spits. Like saying her name is crossing the line.

“I was catching up with my ex wife.” I retort, “Now excuse Me.”

“But I'm your Fiance! We are getting married, Alex.” She blocks my path.

Fiance

The word tastes like poison, not promise. I didn’t even want this anymore. It was just convenient. Familiar. Expected. Something that made sense at the time when nothing else did. When I was too broken to think clearly and too angry to care.

I was doing it for me but now i’ll have to do it for the sake of Rayen. He has to have a full family.

“I'm well aware.” I respond flatly, stepping around her.
