Chloe had just taken a few steps when she bumped into the casino's finance manager.

The manager was all smiles and deference. "Ms. Chloe, what a pleasant surprise! If you'd given us a heads-up, we would've rolled out the red carpet. Claud has always made it clear that your visits demand our utmost respect. If we ever slacked, we'd all end up in the alligator pit."

Ricky was taken aback by the manager's words. He knew exactly whose turf they were on. Claud was a bit of a phantom around here—always talked about but never seen. Yet, stories about him were everywhere, and now this woman had some kind of connection to him. The mention of alligators hit Ricky hard, too.

He couldn't afford to worry about the finer details anymore. Lisa was looking at a decade behind bars, making her secrets pretty much worthless. But if there was still some value left in them, he figured he might as well squeeze it dry.

"Hey, hold up!" he called out.

Chloe turned with an elegant grace. "Have you changed your mind?"

Ricky moved closer. "I do have dirt on Lisa."

"What kind of dirt?"

"She committed murder!"

Even though Chloe had mentally prepared herself, the word 'murder' still hit her like a ton of bricks. Lisa was always a bit of a hothead, but murder? That was a whole new level.

"I saw a drunk guy beating his wife, who was all bruised up and huddled on the couch. Their daughter seemed used to it, lost in her video game with headphones on, ignoring the chaos."

"Then the guy, in his drunken rage, turned on the girl, yanked off her headphones, and slapped her hard."

The girl fought back, but she was no match for him. Soon enough, he had her pinned and was whipping her with a belt. Her mother rushed over, shielding her and urging her to run. Instead of fleeing, the girl grabbed a knife from the table and stabbed him in the chest."

Ricky shivered at the memory. "There was blood everywhere, and the guy dropped fast. I was scared out of my wits. The woman seemed to change completely, kneeling on the floor. I have no idea what the mother and daughter said to each other, but the girl took off. Not long after, I heard the sirens and got out of there fast."

Ricky went on, "I kept tabs on the news later. The mother took the fall, confessed to the cops, and the girl vanished for a bit. Knowing this secret, I thought I could use it to my advantage, but she disappeared like a ghost, and I couldn't track her down."
