Chloe was completely out of the loop on everything. She hadn't thought about Lisa in ages. Connor had been so sure Lisa would end up behind bars that Chloe stopped paying any attention. But when Connor broke the news to her, looking all serious, Chloe was floored.
“How on earth did that happen? Who bailed her out?” she asked, baffled. Clearly, Lisa couldn't have pulled off such a miraculous escape on her own. Someone had to be pulling strings from the shadows.
With a touch of sarcasm, Chloe wondered, “Was it the Meadows family paying off the paparazzi?” Connor shook his head, still looking grave. “No, the Meadows family wasn’t involved this time; they just don’t have that kind of pull.”
The evidence against Lisa had been rock-solid. Plus, it was CNR’s legal team that filed the lawsuit. Turning that kind of situation around wasn’t something you did on a whim. Chloe seemed to piece something together.
Connor sighed, “I’m sorry, Chloe.” Chloe jumped in, “It was you, wasn’t it, Chloe?” Connor nodded, “She bribed quite a few people and got the top lawyer in the country, Anthony, on board.”
Anthony was a legend in the legal world, known for never losing a case. But he only took on cases for the filthy rich, often twisting the truth and exploiting loopholes in the law. Chloe scoffed, “So much for integrity and justice. It’s just a climb for power and wealth, totally blurring right and wrong. It’s a real disgrace.”
Connor reassured her, “Don’t worry. They may have blindsided us this time, but we can still go after Lisa legally. I’m not letting her slip away.” Chloe nodded, “I’m not worried about Lisa going to jail; I’m worried about you, Chloe.”
The peace didn’t last long, though. Claire just had to get involved again, heading straight for Riverbrook. Why was Claire so determined to keep Lisa out of trouble? What was her game plan?
Claire’s cunning and scheming were leagues ahead of Lisa’s. Why was she doing this? Was it just to be a thorn in their side? Connor felt a bit exasperated, “At the end of the year, Sartori Corporation holds its annual shareholders meeting. Every year, he stirs up trouble for me around this time, and this year, Jeffery might announce his successor.”
“Chloe, I’ll never let you down. I love you.”
Meanwhile, Lisa stepped out of the courthouse, squinting at the blinding sunlight. She had lost so much weight in detention that her cheeks were sunken in. She still couldn’t quite wrap her head around what had happened.
She had been sure she’d be found guilty. But then, out of nowhere, the paparazzi had confessed, taking all the blame. Plus, she had switched lawyers. Could Leah have been behind all this?
Lisa was dazed. Just then, a figure appeared in front of her. It was the lawyer who had just fiercely defended her in court.
