Connor's eyes darkened a bit. Chloe, on the other hand, had already packed up and walked over.

"No overtime today?" she asked.

Connor replied, "I missed you, just wanted to drop by and see you."

A smile spread across Chloe's face. She stood on her tiptoes and gave Connor a quick peck on the lips. "I missed you too," she said.

Grant saw this and his gaze intensified. He then said, "I'll head back to the office. You two carry on." But instead of heading for the door, he moved towards a wall on the left side of the office. Only then did Connor notice that there was a hidden door in that wall.

After Grant left, Connor's expression soured. "Your offices are connected?" he asked.

Chloe nodded casually. "Grant's office is next door. He said he set this office up for me years ago and has kept it for me ever since."

Connor's eyebrows knitted together. So, Grant had been interested in her for years. Suppressing his discomfort, Connor asked, "Have you had dinner?"

Chloe replied, "Grant took me to Xavier's for some crab bisque dumplings. They were pretty good." Then she asked, "Have you eaten?"

Connor hadn't, but he fibbed, "Yeah, I did." His tone turned a bit colder. "Since you're busy, I'll head back."

Chloe looked puzzled. "You just got here; why leave so soon?"

Connor, at a loss for words, blamed work. "I've been swamped lately."

"What?" she responded, taken aback.

"You've got the talent, the resources, and you've got me. Why not launch your own jewelry brand? I, along with Sartori Corporation, will back you all the way."

Chloe had never considered this before. After a moment, she replied, "I'm a major shareholder in QUEEN, and Grant's never been stingy with the dividends. Why should I leave him and start my own company?"

Connor couldn't find an answer. Should he tell her he suspects Grant has ulterior motives? Or that he doesn't like her spending so much time with Grant? But neither reason would change anything. Chloe didn't believe Grant had feelings for her, and Connor couldn't push her to abandon her career just for his sake, unless she wanted to make that change herself.

Connor lowered his head and simply said, "It's just a suggestion. If it doesn't feel right to you, let's just drop it."
