"Connor, you're being completely unreasonable," Chloe said before turning on her heel and leaving him standing there, stewing in his anger.

Connor fumed, pacing back and forth in his office like a caged tiger. His eyes landed on a photo of Chloe as a child, sitting on his desk. In a moment of frustration, he picked it up, ready to hurl it against the wall, but he stopped himself just in time. Instead, he slammed it back down onto the desk, his fist following closely with a thud that echoed in the room. His chest ached fiercely, and he finally sank into the couch, defeated.

When Teddy walked in, he found Connor looking like he'd just gone ten rounds in a boxing ring. Connor was clutching his chest, his face a grimace of pain. Teddy quickly grabbed some painkillers, shaking his head. "You really should go to the hospital with a chest injury like that. Popping pills isn't gonna fix it."

Despite his words, Teddy handed over a glass of water with the medication. Connor ignored the water, dry-swallowing the pills and then leaning heavily on his desk, sweat beading on his forehead. Even after taking the painkillers, the tightness in his chest didn't let up.

Teddy sighed, "Honestly, do you think you're overthinking this? I don't think Grant’s interested in Ms. Chloe like that."

Connor looked up, annoyance clear in his eyes. "He admitted it himself. Don’t you trust me?"

Teddy quickly tried to calm him down. "Of course I trust you, but something doesn’t add up."

He had overheard the argument between Connor and Chloe. "What doesn’t make sense?"

"Chloe made a good point. If Grant really had feelings for her, he’d have confessed long ago. And if he was worried about Lucas, that doesn’t hold water either. Back then, Lucas was just her boyfriend, and Grant didn't interfere. Now that you and Chloe are married, it makes even less sense for him to step in."

Connor couldn't wrap his head around it either. Why would Grant expose himself to Connor but pretend nothing was going on in front of Chloe? If he truly wanted to take Chloe away, why didn’t he step up when she was struggling and vulnerable years ago? That would have been the perfect time, right?

Chloe felt a rush of relief and happiness. “Really?”

“Would I lie to you, Chloe? Seriously, I owe you one. You're the reason we got together.”

Chloe felt lighter, and even her headache seemed to ease. It turned out the friend was into men after all, and with that realization, her last worry melted away.

Chloe decided not to join Edgar for the massage because Cassie had called. Cassie had recently moved back to Eldridge City and wanted Chloe's help checking out locations for a new racing club she planned to open.

After Chloe left, Edgar sauntered into Grant's office, flopping onto the couch with a dramatic sigh. “I helped you fool Chloe, and now I'm drowning in guilt. What a mess.”
