Meanwhile, Chloe and Connor had made their way back to the old Sartori family estate. The drive was mostly silent, a heavy tension hanging between them. It had been a week since they last spoke—a chasm of misunderstanding keeping them apart.

As they rolled into the driveway, the mansion stood brightly illuminated, a stark contrast to the mood in the car. Chloe was about to step out when Connor gently but firmly grabbed her arm.

"Chloe, how long are you going to keep giving me the cold shoulder because of your friend?" Connor asked, his voice tinged with frustration.

Chloe chuckled softly. "Connor, don't turn the tables. You're the one who started this whole silent treatment."

"I'm just being true to myself," Connor replied, his tone defensive. "If you want to talk, I'm here. If not, suit yourself."

Chloe stared straight ahead, not meeting his gaze. She had explained everything about her friend and Edgar to Connor before, but he was still unconvinced. He was stuck on the idea that her friend had some hidden agenda, and Chloe felt caught in the middle.

Connor broke the silence again, "You say you're fine with everything, but why is he always in your office when I visit? Does he have nothing better to do? That connecting door between your offices bugs me. Every time I swing by, you're drawing something he can see but I can't."

"And what's with the daily lunches? And boxing together? Is it some nostalgic trip? When you're having such a great time with him, do you even remember you're married?"

"When we spar, it’s like he's going all out on you, and then you run to him after. Do you ever think about how that makes me feel?"

Her laughter only seemed to fuel his frustration. But then, Chloe moved quickly. She shifted, straddling Connor’s legs, wrapping her arms around his neck in a playful, intimate gesture. The car suddenly felt smaller, the space between them almost nonexistent.

Connor froze with surprise, his body tense. Chloe leaned back slightly, causing him to instinctively wrap his arms around her waist. She gave him a quick, teasing peck on the lips. "I miss you every day, you know. Do you miss me?"

Connor's face, already red from anger, deepened to a crimson shade, even his ears turning pink. "Chloe, I’m trying to stay mad here."

Chloe smiled, finding his struggle endearing. "I've been thinking a lot too. I get that maybe my friendship looks a bit too close from your angle. I didn’t think about how you'd feel, and I'm sorry. I'll switch offices and try to have dinner with you more often. How does that sound?"
