Eve glanced at Diana's stiff leg, and the sight of it kept stirring up waves of guilt inside her.

"Quinn, can we have a quick chat, just the two of us?" Diana asked.

Eve turned to her friends, "Why don't you all go grab something to eat?" Though they looked a bit concerned, they eventually headed off.

Nearby, there was a wall bursting with flowers. Oleanders covered it from top to bottom. Even though it was winter and far from blooming season, the wall had a warm water system that kept the temperature and humidity just right, making the flowers bloom in all their glory. They were white, shaped like peach blossoms, delicate and beautiful, much like a stunning face.

Eve looked at Diana, swallowing hard. "What did you want to talk about?"

"I came to patch things up," Diana said.

Eve was taken aback, "Patch things up?"

"They're right. The accident that left me disabled wasn't your fault. I was fragile back then, or maybe it was just meant to be. I don't hold it against you."

Hearing this, Eve felt a mix of emotions. It didn’t sound like the Diana she knew. After the accident, the Gilbert family had blamed her completely, which was why she had been forced to leave the country. Agreeing to marry Pax was the only way she could come back, and she didn’t want to spend her life alone in some far-off place.

"We were great friends as kids, remember? In kindergarten, you loved pastries, but you were a bit chubby, and your family wouldn’t let you have any. So, I got our chef to make scones for you every day and brought them as your breakfast."

"It's alright."

Diana gave her a warm smile, "Let's make up, Eve. Be sisters again."

Eve nodded, "Diana, I’ve wanted to say this for a while—I’ve moved on from Connor. Once I let go, I realized the world is so much bigger. There are plenty of guys out there. Now that he's married, there's no point holding on."

Eve had heard bits about Diana's recent troubles. She knew Diana still had feelings for Connor. A flicker of coldness crossed Diana’s eyes, but she quickly brushed it away with a smile. "I know, I'm about to set off and find my own place in the world."

Diana pulled a small gift box from her purse and handed it to Eve. "I brought these scones from home. Give them a try, see if they remind you of our childhood. Pax is my brother, after all, and soon you’ll be my sister-in-law. We really are family now."
