At that moment, Chloe, lying on the treatment bed, suddenly popped her eyes open. Slowly, she sat up, her gaze landing on Connor. “Connor, what are you doing here?”
She rubbed her temples, feeling a bit out of sorts, and noticed Connor's tense stance. Confused, she asked, “What's happening?”
Connor sensed something was off but couldn't quite put his finger on it. All he managed was, “Are you okay?”
Massaging her forehead, Chloe replied, “Yeah, I'm fine. I've been having these memory lapses and can't sleep well, so I got a friend to do some acupuncture on me. It’s helped a lot.”
Her explanation matched exactly what the butler had said earlier. Spotting Kash, Chloe asked, “Big brother, what brings you here?”
Connor, who had just begun to relax, tensed up again. It seemed Chloe had forgotten. She’d forgotten texting him and specifically asking Kash to come. What was happening?
Feeling a bit wary of Grant, he decided to keep things to himself for now. Instead, he explained, “You sent me your location and asked me to pick you up. I was having tea with your brother, so we came together.”
Chloe didn’t seem to think much of it and simply said, “Oh, right. I did ask you to pick me up. I took a cab here, but the driver didn't want to wait. Plus, my friend had company, and I didn’t want to bother them, so I texted you.”
The words flowed easily, but after she spoke, Chloe realized she couldn’t actually remember any of it. She had no idea how she ended up there or why. It was like her memories of that time had just vanished. All she remembered was her friend using acupuncture to help manage her condition.
A flicker of confusion crossed Chloe's eyes. Seeing she was okay, Connor finally relaxed a bit.
“Mr. Grant, if there’s a need to change locations in the future, please let me know. It’d be easier for me to bring Chloe over.”
So, Connor recognized her instantly. The woman before him was Amelia, the Maddie everyone thought had died five years ago.
Connor’s emotions were a whirlwind of shock and disbelief. “Amelia, you’re alive?”
Maddie smiled softly. “Yep, Mr. Grant saved me back then. I stayed with him, and we started the jewelry company QUEEN. I’ve been his partner, MISSZ, managing his overseas ventures all these years.”
Connor couldn’t wrap his head around it. “If you weren’t dead, why didn’t you come back and say something? Do you have any idea how devastated Teddy was, thinking you were gone?”
Maddie suddenly asked, “He was devastated and heartbroken, but what about you?”
